Announcing the 2014 WOOFnPURR Calendar Fundraiser for the Humane Society of Sedona

logo_humanesocietySedona AZ (January 9, 2013) – The first step in preventing unwanted litters, pet homelessness and reducing the euthanasia rate is to have pets spayed and neutered. Recognizing the valuable need for this service, Harley Todd, Isabel and David Simmer developed the idea of the 2014 WOOFnPURR Calendar to help raise funds specifically to be used at the Humane Society of Sedona (HSS) to fund low cost or no cost spay and neuter clinics.

Think your pet has what it takes to be a calendar pin-up? Then go to www.WOOFnPURR.org and sign up your cat or dog or both! There are several ways to participate in the calendar and raise money for the WOOFnPURR spay and neuter program.

20130109_HSSflyerThe WOOFnPURR calendar is actually two calendars one for dogs and one for cats. Thirteen submissions (cover plus 12 months) will be accepted for each calendar. Every pet registered for one of the 13 spots in each calendar will receive a professional photo session! The best photo of your pet will be selected by the WOOFnPURR committee and will be posted on the WOOFnPURR.org website where the voting begins! The dog and cat that raise the most money through “votes” will be the ones featured on the cover of each calendar. Additionally, in order of total funds raised, each pet owner will be contacted and asked what their preferred month is for their dog or cat. This “voting with donations in support of a particular pet” structure allows for the potential funds raised to be limitless and encourages pet owners to involve their friends, family, neighbors, coworkers, etc., to go online and vote for their pet via donations.

Harley Todd, the creator, project manager and one of the photographers for the calendar has extensive experience with creating calendars as fundraisers for various organizations. “We know how people love to show off their pets and we are leveraging that love to generate much needed funds for the WOOFnPURR project to support the Humane Society’s low cost or no cost spay and neuter clinics. Ideally we would like to raise enough money for as many no cost clinics as possible. By offering even MORE low cost or no cost spay and neuter clinics we hope to help even more pet guardians/custodians in Northern Arizona who want to give their pets the best care but simply cannot afford these services.”

Proceeds from WOOFnPURR will also directly support newly obtained shelter pets as it is mandatory at HSS for all animals to be altered prior to adoption. 95% of the animals that come into the shelter have not been spayed or neutered, further validating the need for this service.”

The 2014 WOOFnPURR calendar fundraising project was announced at HSS’s 12 Strays of Christmas holiday brunch on December 2nd. Within minutes of announcing this calendar project all thirteen positions for the WOOF (dog) calendar sold and five of the PURR calendar spots leaving eight available. The cost is $250 and the tax-deductable donation guarantees the pet will be in the calendar (on the cover or month depending upon amount of money raised) as well as a professional photo session! PLUS the pet guardian/custodian gets a copy of the photo used for the calendar.

There are two other ways to participate in the WOOFnPURR calendar project. For a $25 donation a person can get their pet a spot within the calendar blank spaces of a month. For $50 a person can have their pet’s photo on a special memorial page honoring those whose pets have passed. Complete details and registration information can be found online at www.WOOFnPURR.org.

The Humane Society of Sedona’s Development Coordinator Betsy Klein stated “The goal is to have 100% of the funds raised from the calendar to go to HSS to fund spay and neuter clinics which will happen if a donor can be found to sponsor the actual printing of the calendar.” The website services have all been donated by Sedona Web Development, calendar design, layout and photography Skin-Walker Photography and additional photography by David Simmer Photography. A sponsor for the actual printing of the calendar will ensure 100% of the funds raised through the WOOFnPURR calendar project will go to HSS. If you are interested in sponsoring the printing of the calendar and for any additional questions regarding this fundraising project, please contact Betsy Klein at 928-282-4679 or development@humanesocietyofsedona.com.
