logo_ycsoCornville AZ (February 2, 2020) – UPDATE – On February 1, suspect Ramirez turned himself in and was booked into the Camp Verde Detention Center.

    ###

Cornville AZ (February 1, 2020) – On the evening of January 30, 2020, 30-year-old Jacob Alonso Ramirez assaulted his girlfriend inside a home in the 10000 block of E Storey Drive, Cornville. The assault involved Ramirez attempting to choke her while smothering her nose and mouth with a blanket. Also during this time, Ramirez took her cell phone after she tried to call 911 to report the assault. When she got access to another phone and tried to call 911, Ramirez took that phone and broke it in half. The victim had been thrown into a television, which was later found damaged.

A young child was in the home during the assault but not injured.

Deputies noted bruising to the victim’s nose and neck while speaking with her. Ramirez is known to possess a firearm and knife. Ramirez also has an active probation violation warrant.

Due to the nature of the information, the YCSO Special Weapons Team activated intending to arrest Ramirez at the Cornville home. Unfortunately, he fled prior to their arrival and an area search is underway. It is unknown at this time if he has access to a vehicle.

Besides the no bond probation warrant, Ramirez is wanted on charges including Aggravated Assault-Strangulation per Domestic Violence, Preventing use of a Communication Device per Domestic Violence, Criminal Damage and Disorderly Conduct per Domestic Violence.

Ramirez is about 5’ 4” tall, 180 pounds with brown eyes and black hair. Ramirez has prior contacts/arrests for Domestic Violence and is consider armed and obviously dangerous.

Please call 911 if you see Ramirez. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is urged to call the Sheriff’s Office at 928-771-3260 or report a tip anonymously to Yavapai Silent Witness at 1800-932-3232. Tips can be submitted online at www.yavapaisw.com.

    The Symbolism of Jan. 6

    By Tommy Acosta
Don’t mess with symbols. Just ask author Dan Brown’s character Robert Landon. The worth of symbols cannot be measured. Symbols make the world-go-round. Symbols carry the weight of a thousand words and meanings. Symbols represent reality boiled down to the bone. Symbols evoke profound emotions and memories—at a very primal level of our being—often without our making rational or conscious connections. They fuel our imagination. Symbols enable us to access aspects of our existence that cannot be accessed in any other way. Symbols are used in all facets of human endeavor. One can only feel sorry for those who cannot comprehend the government’s response to the breech of the capital on January 6, with many, even pundits, claiming it was only a peaceful occupation. Regardless if one sees January 6 as a full-scale riot/insurrection or simply patriotic Americans demonstrating as is their right, the fact is the individuals involved went against a symbol, and this could not be allowed or go unpunished.
