    … when I started shooting wildlife, I did a lot of work with waterfowl … ducks and geese and that kind of mirrored my early years when I spent a lot of time in sloughs and wetlands plus all the years hunting them. The subject matter has greatly expanded over the years and once in a while I find that I have not shot any ducks for an extended period of time … so here are a couple of shots I took earlier this year.

    The top photo is a Ringneck on his take off run … diving ducks typically run across the surface of the water to gain speed for their takeoff … dabblers rocket skyward with a strong thrust of their wings into the water and a jump with their powerful webbed feet and rising many feet into the air.

    Below are four Ringnecks and a Redhead in flight at Lake Pleasant and a mountain in the background … love them!

    Short one tonight as I get up in four hours to head down to the lake for an early morning shoot … lake level is down ten feet from a few weeks ago … the farmers crops are happy though.

    Have a beautiful day … keep breathing and give thanks for the privilege of life … smile!

    Cheers,

    Ted

    Work as if thy task were made for thee;
    Be strong as if thou hadst courage,
    And charitable as if thou hadst been rewarded;
    Remain poor if riches are dishonorable,
    And carry poverty with the dignity of virtue.
    When others dine sumptuously, eat thy crust;
    Let love be thy guide and justice thy God—
    Not for thyself alone, but for all men.
    Pursuing these things you will be misjudged
    And in the gloaming of thy days, forgotten;
    Then, uncomplaining, lie thou down at eve,
    Cheered by the love in thy heart.
    And by the full-grown soul of thy charity;
    Then hast thou won the heroic battle,
    Yet not stained the sweet earth with blood;
    But in the garden of love and sacrifice,
    Hast thou planted serenely growing flowers,
    That shall still blow when thou dost slumber
    In the shadow-land of dreamless sleep.

    What Would I Change?
    By Amaya Gayle Gregory

    What would I change if I could? You and I both know I can’t, but it’s a fun exercise anyway. I would have been less of a know-it-all on my spiritual journey. It seems to be a side-effect of the path. Spiritual folks develop an all-knowing buffer to protect against their inevitable surrender to the unknown, but understanding that now didn’t make it gentler on me or those I loved, let alone those that I deemed not capable of getting it 😉 Yeah … I’d have dropped the spiritual snob act. I’d have recognized that spiritual radicals are only different on the outside from radical right Christians, and that the surface doesn’t really matter as much as I thought. We are all doing our couldn’t be otherwise things, playing our perfect roles. I’d have learned to bow down humbly before my fellow man, regardless of whether I agreed with him or not. We’re all in this together and not one of us will get out alive. Read more→
