… or perhaps a little lower … whatever the intent, this heron was getting out of a secluded little cove on Willow Lake this afternoon. I first went to Watkins Lake, but they have closed the main ramp and dock while they complete repairs on the dam … the other ramp was nice, but no dock and it would have been an issue so I headed over to Willow Lake; the ramp and dock were wide open. You are only permitted to use electric motors on Willow which is nice, but when the wind is whipping across the water it is hard to maintain steerage with less than 80% power, and that means a quicker drain on the battery. I kept close to shore as that is where the ducks and birds were and explored quite a few neat coves that had narrow entries from the lake and this heron was in one of them.
Next time on Willow I want to explore the trees in the water on the far side of the lake. I talked to a couple of guys who had been over there and they said it was filled with life including a porcupine that was in a tree a hundred feet or so from shore. The water level in both lakes is the highest I have ever seen it and that is good because so many more parts of the lakes and the coves are accessible. Need to get back there in the next few days and do some more exploring.
