… a most wonderful weekend … friends, photography, repairs and gem cutting. Tomorrow I am going to do a gem sequence beginning with a 4.25 ct eye clean top blue sapphire pebble from Gem Mountain Sapphire in Montana. I got it at the end of a long day working the high-pressure hose on the sluice and we emptied out all of the collection trays and sorted stones. This was about 35 years ago, and I found quite a few pieces of gem rough I have been saving … time to cut them now … sometimes it is more fun just looking at them and rolling over in your mind the possibilities than actually cutting them.
The Merganser hens above are from the trip down to Lake Pleasant last Thursday … it was a very good day and for the price the new Canon f/6.3 -f/9.0 continues to amaze me. Check it out at District Camera in Burke Va ask for Eldar or Jack. I love everything about flight and wonder at creatures that daily engage in it!
Below is a photo I took looking WSW just east of Casner Mountain which is along the bottom of the image and on the very left side it falls off into the gap between Casner and Black Mountain. Sycamore Canyon is above Casner and is the second largest canyon in Arizona … entry at the gap and at the south end near the confluence of the Verde River and Sycamore Creek and probably other access locations. Above the red rock canyon walls, you can see the plateau edge as it cuts its way to the NW and Ashfork, Az. On the horizon are the Bradshaw Mountains.
Into a new day and week … live and choose to enjoy each moment you are granted … keep breathing and be kind.

Though I know I shall sometime no more open
my eyes to the night or the day,
I am one who looks at the stars when unchained from
the workbench at nightfall.
They are a sign that I am not ephemeral, nor you, nor
you, whoever you are.
The dawn comes and the dark and the sign sparkling
in the brooding night forever and forever.
