… got it all in this photo … all the red rocks in Sedona … it is not all that big of an area in total, but once on the ground you are swept up in the beauty, majesty and hugeness of the incredible red rocks that populate the area many of us call home.
SR 179 wends its way north through the Village of Oak Creek, between Bell Rock and Castle Rock on the left side, the wilderness area, the Chapel area and finally into Sedona. Center foreground to the right of the highway is the Ranger Station and on the right side of the photo above my signature is Woods Canyon. On the left side of the photo you can see the village and the golf course running up to the green slope … this is the northern side of House Mountain, a shield volcano that erupted about 13 million years ago. You will notice that there are no lava flows coming down and that is because at the time this was the edge of the Colorado Plateau and the flow went to the south which you can see from Page Springs on the south side. the entire space between House Mountain and the right side of the photograph was at least as tall as House Mountain, but 13 million years of wind and water erosion has carved out the Sedona area which we see today. Horizon right of center are the San Francisco Peaks and Mount Elden. On the left horizon is Bill Williams Mountain, the first volcano in the San Francisco Volcanic field erupting about 3.8 million years ago.
Below is one of my favorite cloud photos taken as I was flying above the clouds on my way to the peaks to do some shooting and fly the ridge. I found another short video that I shot with the GoPro Camera mounted on the turtle deck behind my head. It gives you a great view of the takeoff, flying with power and then as a glider with the engine off through flight and landing … it is the way I learned to fly … sailplanes have no engines. Hope you enjoy it and fun for me to live it again.

Have an absolutely beautiful day … your choice!
With joy,
Ted
If you have spoken something beautiful,
Or touched the dead canvas to life,
Or made the cold dead stone to speak—
You who know the secret heart of beauty;
If you have done one thing
That has made gentler the churlish world,
Though mankind pass you by,
And feed and clothe you grudgingly—
Though the world starve you,
And God answer not your nightly prayers,
And you grow old hungering still at heart,
And lie down at last forgotten—
If all this befall you who have created beauty,
You shall still leave a bequest to the world
Greater than institutions and rules and commerce;
And by the immutable law of the human heart
The God of the universe is your debtor,
If you have made gentler the churlish world.
