… several years ago a friend gave me some old photos of Northern Arizona he had scanned and among them was a black and white photo in very poor shape of two boys who were out on Mormon Lake fishing in a rowboat. The photo was taken in 1921 … 103 years ago! My brothers and I shared many of the same and similar moments as we lived and grew up in Minneapolis … lakes, sloughs and then the neighborhood sports in our front yards. We had cap guns and played cowboys and such … imagination was key! We knew when to come home for dinner; joy and laughter were the norm at the dinner table. Nary a cellphone existed, and people talked to each other … what a wonderful life it was then … still is!
So, I spent a total of about five hours restoring the photo in black and white and then when I had it right, I colorized the photo … first using the colorization neural filter in Photoshop and then various other layers to paint on to true up the colors plus numerous other adjustment layers in Photoshop. Restoration is fun, especially when you get a good result …. 103 years ago the kids were having a blast on the lake … check those smiles out 🙂
The photo below is an aerial shot I took from east of Strawberry crater looking to the WSW from an altitude of about 6900′ which is about four hundred feet above the peak of the crater. Directly above it is O’Leary peak and behind that are the San Francisco Peaks … Sunset Crater is almost at the left edge of the image. I also removed the power transmission lines behind Strawberry Crater so this is the way it looked before we got here.
A beautiful new week underway … smile, keep breathing and share the joy in your life.
Cheers,
Ted
If the noise of the city offend you, go afield, when
you may, with the birds and the wild, free life that
troubles not;
The growing grain and the placid sky have a kind of
voice; and though you are alone, the boundlessness of
the universe is with you.
The dream of imperishable passions in old history,
the love of mothers for children, and the love of
children, born and unborn, and all love, swarm in the soft
air, speaking to the inner ear in the still language.
Go afield with the birds and the growing grain and
the placid sky, and dream and forget; and you will see
that you are changed when you awake and the gleams
of the city peep in your twilight returning.
