… yesterday morning it was down to Lake Pleasant and the first shoot of the year. Cold, overcast and very flat light … the sun thinned the clouds out some by mid-morning and we got some decent shooting conditions and photos. The lake is down about a foot from the last time down there, so it was difficult getting into some of the areas that produce the best results.

Thew photo above is a Ring Billed Gull that was wheeling around a quiet bay looking for food near the surface of the water. Their aerobatic maneuvers are an absolute delight to watch and a challenge to get a good shot of them as they make abrupt course corrections in flight.

We were shooting an Osprey in another bay as he perched in a tree in the water … I like to get the shots as they go into flight so was taking short bursts hoping to get it. The Osprey spread his wings as if to take off when a nearby Great Blue Heron burst into flight and flew directly below the Osprey as I was taking the shot … kind of a fun one.

Tomorrow I’m putting the finishing touches on a black jade and opal pendant that I have been working on for some time … time to finish it and get it on its way to the new owner … I’ll take some photos of it and include them with Friday’s email. Also a few other jobs to finish up that have been calling for a while … much more of the gem cutting and jewelry making in 2024 … I have so many ideas I want to bring forth as gem cutting and jewelry art.

Have a beautiful day and live it … the only day you have!

    Cheers,

    Ted

When I wander in places of greed for gain I have
no desire; the grass of the meadow and the stars
of the night comfort me. Though darkness overcome
me, I shall not despair; the God of my youth still abides
with me. He showeth me the palaces of the rich and
the haunts of the poor, yet keepeth sweet my soul.
When weariness overtakes me, I lie down in slumber,
and the peace of the world is upon me. Though poverty
abide with me, I pray that courage and gentleness
forsake me not. And with all living things out of the
earth and out of other worlds I believe I shall grow
in the fields of God forever.

    A Psalm by Max Ehrmann
