… so, the current heat wave we are experiencing has revived memories of not so long ago when I would take to the air and climb to a very high altitude to escape the inferno temperatures on the ground. Using the dry adiabatic lapse rate for a parcel of dry air, the temperature drops at a constant 5.4 degrees F per thousand feet of altitude. Home is at 4200′ MSL … Humpherys Peak is 12,637′ MSL a difference of about 8,400′ or 45 +/- degrees F. In the photo above I am well above Humphreys Peak which is obscured in the clouds and the Painted Desert in the background … Huge smiles!
In the photo below I am running the ridge between Humphreys Peak (behind me) and Agassiz Peak (upper right corner) and tucked in close to the mountain … also cool … temperature and thing to do!
Into the weekend … stay cool … be cool! Enjoy the day, your friends and family … keep breathing and smiling for you are alive!
Back Monday morning … that’s the plan.
Cheers,
Ted
A bird flies through the sky, and I fly with it. I am in
each pearl of moisture sparling in the sun. I lie lazy
on the clouds. And I acknowledge my kinship with
each winged thing.
I see all as one, and nothing repels me, as this new
day climbs noiselessly out of the valley of the night.
Peace lies over the world and over the world of my soul.
