City of Sedona ArizonaSedona AZ (April 25, 2021) – The city of Sedona and their contractor, Eagle Mountain Construction, are set to begin the Shelby Drive Roadway Improvements Project the week of April 26, 2021.

The project consists of installing new storm drain, sewer main and water main along Shelby Drive, from Sunset Drive to just south of Stanley Steamer Drive. Additional work includes the installation of new asphalt pavement, curb and gutter, a shared-use path on the north side of Shelby Drive and the reconstruction of driveway entrances along the project corridor. Once complete, this project will increase pedestrian safety, upgrade the utilities that serve the local community, extend the pavement life and improve the ride quality for local motorists. Work is scheduled to be complete in fall 2021.

Starting Monday, April 26, 2021, crews will be mobilizing equipment into the area and begin saw cutting the roadway in preparation of utility installation. Work may occur Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Please be aware of lane restrictions, temporary street and driveway closures, reduced speeds, rough road conditions, loud noise and flagging operations. To avoid conflicts with construction equipment and expedite completion of the project, please avoid on-street parking while work is underway. Driveway access will be maintained as best as possible, however, it may change on a day-to-day basis. Personnel will work to maintain access and will communicate alternate means of ingress and egress throughout the project. Temporary driveway closures may be necessary at times.

    The Symbolism of Jan. 6

    By Tommy Acosta
Don’t mess with symbols. Just ask author Dan Brown’s character Robert Landon. The worth of symbols cannot be measured. Symbols make the world-go-round. Symbols carry the weight of a thousand words and meanings. Symbols represent reality boiled down to the bone. Symbols evoke profound emotions and memories—at a very primal level of our being—often without our making rational or conscious connections. They fuel our imagination. Symbols enable us to access aspects of our existence that cannot be accessed in any other way. Symbols are used in all facets of human endeavor. One can only feel sorry for those who cannot comprehend the government’s response to the breech of the capital on January 6, with many, even pundits, claiming it was only a peaceful occupation. Regardless if one sees January 6 as a full-scale riot/insurrection or simply patriotic Americans demonstrating as is their right, the fact is the individuals involved went against a symbol, and this could not be allowed or go unpunished.
