Sedona AZ (October 22, 2018) – Celebrate the women of Shakespeare in song when performer, writer and director Nancy Husby brings her live show and concert “Shakespeare’s Ladies Sing: The Girls from Stratford-Upon-Avon” to Sedona.

There will be one performance on Sunday, Oct. 28 at 2 p.m. on the Goldenstein Stage at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre, presented by the Sedona International Film Festival.

20181022_NancyHusby-headshot“Shakespeare’s Ladies Sing:  The Girls from Stratford-Upon-Avon” explores and reveals the myth of the ‘common’ woman — she who is bawdy, sly, provocative, alluring, challenging, flexible and enduring — young and in love; contemporary and ambitious; old and sorrowful.

Interpreted with high drama and low comedy by Jim Buchanan and Nancy Husby, Will’s girls will come to life in this very special, entertaining show, soaring past mere words through the melodies of masterworks from Verdi’s “Macbeth” to Bernstein’s “West Side Story”.

Husby started her career in nightclub cabarets and continued on into theatre, musical comedy and opera as performer, writer and director.  She has sung with theater and opera companies from coast to coast — New York City Opera to Tacoma Opera, as well as international symphony orchestras.

Buchanan has been Music Minister at Christ Lutheran Church in Sedona for 24 years.  He is a pianist, organist, choir director, accompanist, and has produced and performed for 20 years in concerts in Sedona, commonly known as “Jim Buchanan and Friends”.

“Shakespeare’s Ladies Sing:  The Girls from Stratford-Upon-Avon” will be performed live on Sunday, Oct. 28 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $20 general admission. All tickets include a meet-and-greet with Nancy Husby and Jim Buchanan in the lobby after the show.

    The Symbolism of Jan. 6

    By Tommy Acosta
Don’t mess with symbols. Just ask author Dan Brown’s character Robert Landon. The worth of symbols cannot be measured. Symbols make the world-go-round. Symbols carry the weight of a thousand words and meanings. Symbols represent reality boiled down to the bone. Symbols evoke profound emotions and memories—at a very primal level of our being—often without our making rational or conscious connections. They fuel our imagination. Symbols enable us to access aspects of our existence that cannot be accessed in any other way. Symbols are used in all facets of human endeavor. One can only feel sorry for those who cannot comprehend the government’s response to the breech of the capital on January 6, with many, even pundits, claiming it was only a peaceful occupation. Regardless if one sees January 6 as a full-scale riot/insurrection or simply patriotic Americans demonstrating as is their right, the fact is the individuals involved went against a symbol, and this could not be allowed or go unpunished.
