Sedona News – The Sedona International Film Festival is taking its show on the road with its new “Movies on the Move” mobile movie truck and outdoor film experience … to The Village!
The next event of the summer will be Tuesday, Aug. 20 at The Collective in the Village of Oak Creek, featuring the blockbuster big screen hit “Dreamgirls”. Showtime will be at dusk (approximately 7:45-8:00 p.m.).
Bring your lawn chairs and your family and friends and enjoy “Cinema Under the Stars” on the festival’s giant outdoor screen with state-of-the-art projection and sound! The festival’s mobile concession stand will have movie treats available.
“Dreamgirls” was nominated for eight Academy Awards, winning two for Best Supporting Actress for Jennifer Hudson and Best Achievement in Sound Mixing.
A trio of black female soul singers cross over to the pop charts in the early 1960s, facing their own personal struggles along the way. Deena (Beyoncé Knowles),Effie (Jennifer Hudson) and Lorrell (Anika Noni Rose) form a music trio called the Dreamettes. When ambitious manager Curtis Taylor Jr. (Jamie Foxx) spots the act at a talent show, he offers the chance of a lifetime, to be backup singers for a national star (Eddie Murphy). Taylor takes creative control of the group and eventually pushes the singers into the spotlight. However, one becomes the star, forcing another out, which teaches them about the high cost of fame.
“Dreamgirls” will be shown outdoors at The Collective (7000 State Route 179 in the Village of Oak Creek) on Tuesday, Aug. 20 at dusk. Seating will begin at 7 p.m. Bring your lawn chairs. Parking is free and available at The Collective.
Tickets are only $7 each, and kids 12 and under are free of charge.
