Sedona News – The Sedona International Film Festival is proud to present the Northern Arizona theatrical premiere of “Farewell, Mr. Haffmann” showing Dec. 29-Jan. 4 at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre.

“Farewell, Mr. Haffmann” won the top two awards at the recent Sedona International Film Festival: the Audience Choice Award for Best International Feature Film and Best of Fest. It also won the top Audience Choice Award at 15 prestigious film festivals around the country. It is returning to Sedona for a theatrical run by popular demand.

Occupied Paris, 1941: all members of the Jewish community are instructed to come forward and identify themselves to authorities. Dedicated jeweler Joseph Haffmann (Daniel Auteuil), fearing the worst, arranges for his family to flee the city and offers his employee François Mercier (Gilles Lellouche) the chance to take over his store until the conflict subsides.

“Farewell, Mr. Haffmann” won the top two awards at the recent Sedona International Film Festival: the Audience Choice Award for Best International Feature Film and Best of Fest. It also won the top Audience Choice Award at 15 prestigious film festivals around the country.

When his own attempts to escape are thwarted, Haffmann is forced to seek his assistant’s protection. It’s a risky proposition for both men, and one that Mercier’s wife Blanche (a wonderful Sara Giraudeau) is skeptical of. As the couple move into the Haffmann home, the agreement turns into a Faustian bargain, one that will forever change the fate of all.

Superbly directed by Cavayé, “Farewell, Mr. Haffmann” masterfully guides the viewer through the world of Vichy France, where lives are irrevocably shaped by the twin scourges of war and the black market.

Rich in moral complexity and empathy, with several twists too good to spoil, this is grand, big-screen entertainment at its finest.

“Farewell, Mr. Haffmann” will be shown at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre Dec. 29-Jan. 4. Showtimes will be Friday and Saturday, Dec. 29 and 30 at 4:00 p.m.; and Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, Jan. 2, 3 and 4 at 7:00 p.m.

Tickets are $12, or $9 for Film Festival members. For tickets and more information, please call 928-282-1177. Both the theatre and film festival office are located at 2030 W. Hwy. 89A, in West Sedona. For more information, visit: www.SedonaFilmFestival.org.
