Sedona, AZ — The Sedona-Oak Creek Airport Authority (SOCAA) has signed on as a Trail Keeper sponsor of the Sedona Red Rock Trail Keeper Fund (SRRTF).  The fund works with the US Forest Service (USFS), Friends of the Forest, contractors, and local volunteers to help offset maintenance costs of the local non-motorized trail system.

The SRRTF gathers funding through business donors, individuals, and grantors to ensure stewardship of hiking trails in the local area.  There are 412 miles of non-motorized trails within the 860 square miles of the Coconino National Forest’s Red Rock Ranger District, approximately 300 of which are within Sedona and the Village of Oak Creek.   In the fiscal year ending last Sept, the SRRTF raised $656,000 to promote the health and safety of the trail system available for hikers, bikers, and equestrian use.

Approximately one quarter of funding for SRRTF came from local business between 2019 and 2023.  This year, five new sponsors joined bringing the total number to 57, of which the Sedona Airport is one.  The airport is committed to support the Trail Keepers Fund through 2026.  On the afternoon of February 22nd, Sky Rock Sedona hosted a celebration event to recognize this unique collaboration of government, business and the USFS.  A ceremonial check for $114,000 was presented to the USFS, which represented $52,000 from the City of Sedona and $62,000 from private and local business contributors.

Airport Manager Ed Rose stated: “Many of our clients visit Sedona to access our world-renowned trail system. We’re proud to join our community partners in preservation efforts of these wonderful assets.”
