SEDONA, Ariz. — July 13, 2026, 7:15 a.m. — State Route 89A has reopened between Sedona and Interstate 17 near Flagstaff after being closed due to the Pocket Fire.
The reopening restores the scenic route through Oak Creek Canyon; however, fire suppression activities continue, and motorists should expect increased fire response traffic and the possibility of intermittent road closures.
Recreation and Trail Closures Remain in Effect
Although SR 89A is now open, access to some recreation sites and trails in Oak Creek Canyon and surrounding areas remains limited due to the Pocket Fire. Visitors should check current Coconino National Forest closure information before heading to a trailhead, campground or recreation site.
Drivers Should Expect Weekday Lane Restrictions
Motorists should also be aware of previously scheduled guardrail improvement work on SR 89A between Pine Flat Campground and the Oak Creek Vista scenic overlook.
Lane restrictions are expected Monday through Thursday, with flaggers allowing traffic through the work zone one direction at a time. A 12-foot vehicle width restriction is in effect. Both northbound and southbound lanes are expected to be open Friday through Sunday.
Pocket Fire Update
The Pocket Fire is currently reported at 27,393 acres and 76% contained, with Oak Creek Canyon residents returned to READY status.
Sedona remains open, and SR 89A between Sedona and Flagstaff is now open. Visitors should continue to respect all posted fire, trail and recreation-area closures as suppression and recovery efforts continue.
