    City of Sedona ArizonaSedona AZ (April 23, 2013) – The City of Sedona Parks and Recreation is accepting registration for our Adult Summer Softball League.  Men and women are welcome to participate.  You may sign up your team now until Wednesday, May 22, 2013.  There is a maximum of 20 players per team and players must be 16 years of age or older.  The fee is $275 per team.  

    Games will be held on Thursday evenings beginning June 6 and will run for 10 weeks.  All games will be at 7:00 p.m. and 8:15 p.m. at Posse Grounds Park, 525 Posse Ground Road.  If 7 or more teams register, the league times will be changed to 6:45 p.m., 7:75 p.m. and 8:45 p.m.  Captains may register their teams at the Parks and Recreation office at Sedona City Hall, 102 Roadrunner Drive.  If you would like to see the league rulebook, please reference our calendar on the City website at www.SedonaAZ.gov/Parks.

    There will be a coaches meeting on Tuesday, May 28 at 6:00 p.m. to discuss league rules.  Parks and Recreation encourages those interested to sign up as soon as possible and not wait until the last minute.  For more information, please call Parks and Recreation at 282-7098.

    No Legal Traction on OHVs

    In the upcoming fight between the city and companies that rent Off Highway Vehicles, the city is going to lose. Simply put, the city has no jurisdiction over state-owned highways. Period. It can manage its own streets and pass ordinances to promote public safety on them, but it can do nada to ban OHVs on S.R.179 or S.R. 89A. Who remembers the fight over dark skies and the light poles on S.R.89A? ADOT had its way no matter how hard the opponents fought. It’s the same here. Can one really believe that Polaris, with outlets across the country, would allow a precedent to be set where municipalities can ban OHVs on state-owned highways that run through their cities? The answer is a resounding “hell no.” Read more→
