Sedona AZ (March 18, 2020) – Sedona AZ (March 18, 2020) – In response to COVID-19, Benefactors of Redrock State Park is moving their outdoor classroom raffle online. Through May 25, Benefactors will be selling raffle tickets at their website www.benefactorsrrsp.org. Read More→

    ###

Sedona AZ (March 11, 2020) – Benefactors of Red Rock State Park is holding a raffle to raise funds for building a new outdoor classroom to replace the one that washed away in the flood a year ago, on February 16, 2019. This new classroom, to be built on safe higher ground will host educational events for all ages, but particularly for young students. The Park’s School Connection Program introduces over 1,500 area students each year to the wonders of the natural world.  Since the old classroom was destroyed, the Park has lacked an outdoor classroom for this valuable educational program.

Each weekend from now to April 18, volunteers will be selling raffle tickets at Red Rock State Park.  There will be two separate raffle drawings. The first will be a Fifty-Fifty Raffle with a 1st prize of 25% of the proceeds of the raffle, a 2nd prize of 15% of the proceeds and a 3rd prize of 10% of the proceeds.  The remaining 50% of the proceeds will go to the Outdoor classroom fund.

The second raffle will be for a number of prizes donated by local businesses. For example, you can win 2 lodging nights, tickets for local adventures, and meals at local restaurants. In addition, winners of 5 Arizona State Parks Standard Annual Passes will be drawn. The pass provides day-use access at all Arizona State Parks for the pass holder and up to three additional adults in the same vehicle. A full list of prizes will be available when you buy your raffle ticket.

Tickets for each of these raffles will be $5 each, or $20 for five.  The drawing will take place on April 18, when Red Rock State Park will be holding Earth Day events.  You do not need to be present in order to win.

If you haven’t yet visited spectacular Red Rock State Park, this is a great opportunity to acquaint yourself with one of the jewels of the Verde Valley.  If you have visited before, you know what a spectacular treasure it is. Either way, come to the Park and support the initiative to rebuild our outdoor classroom.

Since the 2004 inception, the Benefactors of Red Rock State Park have underwritten a wide variety of projects at the Park. The organization also played a major role in the advocacy and fundraising efforts that were ultimately successful in preserving the basic operation of the Park, during drastic reductions of State financial report during the Great Recession. The Benefactors have continued adjusting their roles and activities to address the most pressing needs of the Park, at any given time. Good morning,
I was online and found your article. I wish you much success on your event.

The reason I’m writing is to ask who donated the passes? The passes are logged for audit purposes, so if you could, please email to me the pass numbers only. And the Benefactors Tax Id number.

If they were donated from one of the state parks then, they will log their pass numbers.

Thank you very much. Have a good day.

      Gloria,

Heidi Erickson will be contacting you with the info you need. The Benefactors Taxid is 20-0745473.

Thank you for reaching out to validate that this offer is approved and legit. I’m sure State Parks has experienced instances where such offers are not.

    The Symbolism of Jan. 6

    By Tommy Acosta
Don’t mess with symbols. Just ask author Dan Brown’s character Robert Landon. The worth of symbols cannot be measured. Symbols make the world-go-round. Symbols carry the weight of a thousand words and meanings. Symbols represent reality boiled down to the bone. Symbols evoke profound emotions and memories—at a very primal level of our being—often without our making rational or conscious connections. They fuel our imagination. Symbols enable us to access aspects of our existence that cannot be accessed in any other way. Symbols are used in all facets of human endeavor. One can only feel sorry for those who cannot comprehend the government’s response to the breech of the capital on January 6, with many, even pundits, claiming it was only a peaceful occupation. Regardless if one sees January 6 as a full-scale riot/insurrection or simply patriotic Americans demonstrating as is their right, the fact is the individuals involved went against a symbol, and this could not be allowed or go unpunished.
