SEDONA, Ariz. — TMS & Brain Health will soon offer transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) treatments to qualifying patients in the Verde Valley via a partnership with local treatment facility Tribe Wellness Group. The company specializes in creating personal treatment regimens to help patients who struggle with a wide range of mental health disorders and who have been resistant to traditional treatments.
“This partnership further cements our commitment to making high-quality mental health care more accessible,” said Ben Spielberg, CEO and founding neuroscientist of TMS & Brain Health. “As the only TMS center in the Verde Valley, we look forward to bringing individualized and effective treatment to a new community.”
TMS is a noninvasive procedure that uses magnetic pulses — similar to those of a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machine — to awaken parts of the brain that are underactive in people who suffer from depression and other mental health disorders.
An FDA-approved treatment program, TMS has been clinically proven to improve symptoms of depression in four to six weeks. TMS & Brain Health’s partnership with Tribe Wellness Group will bring the first wave of TMS treatments to Sedona and the Verde Valley.
“TMS is an exciting breakthrough in the treatment of major depression,” said Dr. Mary Watson, medical director of Tribe Wellness Group. “It can be effective even in treatment-resistant depression and it has minimal associated risks or adverse effects. This will especially appeal to people in the Verde Valley who suffer from depression, but would prefer not to take medication. My team and I are thrilled to finally be able to offer this treatment modality to our clients, especially with the great results TMS & Brain Health has had using the protocols developed by Ben Spielberg.”
Traditionally, TMS sessions take upwards of 40 minutes per day for the duration of a four-to-six-week treatment program. The staff at TMS & Brain Health, however, specialize in personalized TMS — a method to tweak the various parameters of the treatment in order to increase efficacy, and oftentimes decrease the duration of the treatment.
TMS & Brain Health is expected to begin seeing new patients in Arizona in November. For more information, visit tmsbrainhealth.com.

    The Symbolism of Jan. 6

    By Tommy Acosta
Don’t mess with symbols. Just ask author Dan Brown’s character Robert Landon. The worth of symbols cannot be measured. Symbols make the world-go-round. Symbols carry the weight of a thousand words and meanings. Symbols represent reality boiled down to the bone. Symbols evoke profound emotions and memories—at a very primal level of our being—often without our making rational or conscious connections. They fuel our imagination. Symbols enable us to access aspects of our existence that cannot be accessed in any other way. Symbols are used in all facets of human endeavor. One can only feel sorry for those who cannot comprehend the government’s response to the breech of the capital on January 6, with many, even pundits, claiming it was only a peaceful occupation. Regardless if one sees January 6 as a full-scale riot/insurrection or simply patriotic Americans demonstrating as is their right, the fact is the individuals involved went against a symbol, and this could not be allowed or go unpunished.
