Jerome AZ (March 27, 2012) – The monthly tradition of Jerome First Saturday Art Walk has taken root and will blossom once again this spring with new artists and studios as well as Jerome’s exciting and well-known galleries. Stroll the mountain town on April 7th from 5:00 to 8:00 PM or take the free shuttle for an evening of art, live music, food and delightful conversation. Spend the day, have a meal in town and maybe even stay the night at one of the town’s delightful accommodations.
The Jerome Art Walk members honor the life of Derryl Day, The Grand Canyon painter who died recently. Lauren Patridge, writer and stepdaughter, has contributed these eloquent words. “Derryl Day was born into Grand Canyon during a three-day deluge in September of 1983, a silt-soaked, rim-to-rim passage that would change him forever. As sand grains and momentous currents carved the landscape itself, they too swept away layers of Day’s prior life, leaving him pink-skinned and newborn, gazing wildly at the incomprehensible breadth of what he would henceforth refer to as, “Nature’s Grandest Art Gallery.” 28 years, 880 miles, and countless oil paintings, pastels, and studies from wind-buffeted cliffs would follow that first voyage. Known as “The” Grand Canyon painter, Derryl Day’s body of work remains a monument to the places he loved so well—a monument that erosion cannot touch.”
Pura Vida Gallery will feature new work by Jerome ceramic artist Richard Johnson. Richard will debut a new palette of glazes during the Jerome Art Walk. Join us for a champagne and chocolate reception for Richard on the evening of the April 7th Art Walk.
Featured at Casa Latina this month, contemporary jewelry artist Max Gaia combines rare stones and gems, delicate geometric copper wiring and specific shapes and colors to promote self-healing, well being and amplification of natural abilities. Inspired by ethnic and spiritual practices, each piece is a work of art and carries its own energy signature. Max’s motto is “Passion is a practice of love”. Just arrived, etched “Day of the Dead” glassware, and hand blown tequila shooters are perfect spring additions at Casa Latina. Duane Ewing continues to create intriguing ceramic sculptures and wall pieces. Several new works are on display at the Cody Delong Studio/gallery in the Merchants’ Gathering building. Spring flowers are popping up all over at Purple Sky Photography at the Old Jerome High School. Poppies, lupine and other Arizona favorites will be featured at the gallery through the month of April.
At the Jerome Artist’s Cooperative Gallery, “Rock, Paper, Fire” continues, featuring work by Sarah Harms and Victoria Norton.
The vibrant landscapes and poetry of Susan Pitcairn will headline “Celebrating Spring,” opening at Jerome’s First Saturday Art Walk, April 7, 5-8 p.m. at Gallery 527, 527 Main St. A regular in the Sedona Plein Air Festival and faculty member of the Sedona Arts Center, Pitcairn is known for her painterly oils, pastels and acrylics. This show expresses the spirit of renewal in the flowers and leafings of the Southwestern spring. Pitcairn will also read from her books of paintings and poems, “The Poetry of Place” and “To Befriend Eternity,” available for signing at the opening.
