Camp Verde AZ (February 18, 2014) – Late-night drivers traveling between Phoenix and Flagstaff tonight need to plan ahead or allow extra travel time as the Arizona Department of Transportation continues work on building a climbing lane on southbound Interstate 17 south of Camp Verde (mileposts 280-282).

The construction of the two-mile-long climbing lane near the top of Copper Canyon Hill will require a one-hour closure in both directions on I-17 tonight as crews prepare for blasting rock cuts along the highway.

Tonight from 11:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m., traffic on northbound I-17 will be stopped at State Route 169 junction (milepost 278) and southbound I-17 traffic will be stopped at General Crook Trail traffic interchange (milepost 286) until the area is reopened.

ADOT works to inform the public about planned highway restrictions, but there is a possibility that unscheduled closures or restrictions may occur. Weather can also affect a project schedule. To stay up-to-date with the latest highway conditions around the state, visit the ADOT Traveler Information Center at www.az511.gov or call 5-1-1.

The beating of Tyre Nichols at the hands of the police preceding his death at the hospital could have been avoided if only he had the sense to not resist them. People fail to understand that on the streets, cops are basically “God.” You can’t fight them. If it takes one, two, five, ten or twenty officers they will eventually put you down and hurt you if they have to in the process of detaining or arresting you. In the Bronx we would fight amongst ourselves but when the cops came it was “Yes, officer. No, officer,” and do our best to look as innocent as possible. People need to understand that cops on the street represent the full power of the state and government. Read more→
