Get ready for a special treat this Labor Day weekend with the ever-popular Sedona-based original classic rock dance band Green Light, performing in concert on the Bella Vita Ristorante patio stage on Saturday, Sept. 4, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.

If you like to dance, busting moves is what this band of baby boomers is all about.

Led by Sedona locals Chicky Brooklyn and Tommy Acosta, they play only original tunes written by the duo that thump their way into the hearts of their audience and pull people out of their seats and onto the dance floor.

Add legendary lead guitarist Robin Miller, consummate drummer Eddy Barattini and trombonist Unclemarc Wolin to the mix and we have a powerhouse band that not only plays songs that get you singing along and tapping your toes but a band that can launch into epic jams that trip the light fantastic.

“For Tommy and I playing with musicians the caliber of Robin Miller, Unclemarc Wolin and Eddy Barattini is like a musical dream come true for us,” Brooklyn said. “We could not hope for a better ensemble complimenting the songs we write and play. It’s a joy and an honor for us.”

Songs are like lampposts in our lives illuminating memories we associate with, as we age.

Hearing a song that we identify with from our youth can bring back memories that may have been long forgotten, memories of loves known and lost, and dreams of the future we may have once had.

Such are the songs this band plays. Each evoke a feeling that brings back those memories, as if Green Lightpicked up the baton from our favorite artists from the past and continues forward with new songs that affect us as deep as those we once knew.

Their songs cover the full gamut of human feeling and expression. They stay with us long after we have gone home.

“I think the biggest thrill is seeing people dancing and singing along,” Brooklyn said. “It’s like watching the dancers transform into teenagers again right there in front of us. It’s such a feeling, words can’t alone express. Only the music we play can.”

Bella Vita Ristorante is located two miles west of the Courtyard by Marriott on 89A near mile marker 368 at 6701 West State Route 89A.

Be sure to make your reservations early as the last two Green Light gigs at the restaurant were sold out.

    The Symbolism of Jan. 6

    By Tommy Acosta
Don’t mess with symbols. Just ask author Dan Brown’s character Robert Landon. The worth of symbols cannot be measured. Symbols make the world-go-round. Symbols carry the weight of a thousand words and meanings. Symbols represent reality boiled down to the bone. Symbols evoke profound emotions and memories—at a very primal level of our being—often without our making rational or conscious connections. They fuel our imagination. Symbols enable us to access aspects of our existence that cannot be accessed in any other way. Symbols are used in all facets of human endeavor. One can only feel sorry for those who cannot comprehend the government’s response to the breech of the capital on January 6, with many, even pundits, claiming it was only a peaceful occupation. Regardless if one sees January 6 as a full-scale riot/insurrection or simply patriotic Americans demonstrating as is their right, the fact is the individuals involved went against a symbol, and this could not be allowed or go unpunished.
