Five Reasons to Love Sedona’s Summer “Ghost Town” Vibe

    By Tommy Acosta —

Everyone is wondering what the heck has happened to our tourists and visitors this summer season.

Some are saying this has been the lowest tourist season in recent memory.

Streets are empty. Parking lots are vacant. Restaurants and lodging are down by 40 points or more. Uptown is a ghost town.

Some say it’s because of the heat. Others blame the instability in the world; airplanes crashing into each other, the mass shootings almost every day. People being attacked and beat up by gangs of young thugs while going out to eat or movie. ICE raids erupting in front of shopping centers, schools, businesses, arresting everybody.  A Baby Boomer Generation not able to travel anymore.

People are scared and they would rather stay home than take their chances out in the streets.

But Sedona is not like the rest of the world or country.

We are the most beautiful and peaceful city in the world, a magical wonderland of beauty peace and tranquility.

Rarely, is there crime of any sort. Sedona is the epicenter of spiritual adventure and growth. There’s no other place in the world like it.

So rather than looking at the slower Sedona we are experiencing this summer season and feeling upset, maybe we could instead see a silver lining to this season of tranquility.

Fewer people, more red rock magic — here’s why this is the season locals secretly love.

It’s the kind of Sedona where locals enjoy wide-open trails, easy parking, and restaurant tables without a waitlist.

This summer, the red rocks stand against skies so blue it hurts, but the usual crowds, nowhere to be found. Call it a ghost town if you want, we call it your perfect window to wander, linger, and see Sedona as the locals do: unhurried, uncrowded, and unforgettable.

So here are five reasons to love Sedona’s summer ghost town vibe:

    1. You’ll Have the Views (Almost) to Yourself
Stand at Cathedral Rock or Airport Mesa and listen the wind in the junipers — no chatter, no photo queues, just you and the view.
    2. Sunset Feels Like a Private Show
With fewer visitors, you can snag the best sunset spots without staking out a seat an hour early. Watch the red rocks ignite in gold and crimson with nothing between you and the horizon.
    3. Tables Without the Wait
Forget 45-minute waits for dinner. This summer, Sedona’s top restaurants are ready when you are, meaning more time savoring your meal and less time standing in line.
    4. The Trails Are Yours to Wander
Whether you’re tackling Devil’s Bridge or strolling along Oak Creek, you’ll have the space to move at your own pace — and snap photos without strangers in the frame.
    5. Locals Have Time to Chat
Fewer crowds mean more authentic connections. Artists, shop owners, and guides are happy to share their favorite hidden spots when they’re not rushing to keep up with peak-season demand.

Sedona’s summer ghost town won’t last forever — by fall, the trails and tables will be full again.

If you’ve ever dreamed of having the red rocks to yourself, this is your moment. Start planning your quiet-season escape now at SedonasBest.com — your insider’s guide to the best places to stay, eat, and explore while Sedona’s magic is all yours.

Hmmm, I think it is the heat. Awfully hot to be putting on fancy digs to go out to dinner, dancing can be a real sweat fest, and forget walking the trails this time of year unless you want a hefty medical bill for treatment of heat exhaustion or stroke. As you send people may be returning in the fall (cooler temps). Also, Sedona has no major festivals in the summer. All the cool festivals take place when it is much COOLER! And let us not forget how horrible it is to negotiate the roundabouts (two in a row for Pete’s sake)! Ugh. As a local I hate it so you can imagine how a tourist may feel about it. So locals take heart and take heart and enjoy the 5 reasons now.

Chris, Yes that round-a-bout is awful. Good news is its being part removed and wont be like it is. It will be(east) brewer road right in, right out. They will add one by the new Forest road.
The city has a great video of the modifications all around the Y.
