Sedona News – The Sedona International Film Festival is proud to join theatres around the world to present the global 2024 encore of “Close Encounters of the Third Kind” showing July 7 and 10 at the Alice Gill-Sheldon Theatre.

In celebration of Columbia Pictures 100th anniversary, “Close Encounters of the Third Kind” returns to the big screen in theaters nationwide.

The epic Steven Spielberg film was nominated for nine Academy Awards, winning two Oscars for Best Cinematography and Special Achievement Award for Sound Effects Editing (for former Sedona resident, the late Frank Warner).

Richard Dreyfuss stars as cable worker Roy Neary, who along with several other stunned bystanders experience a close encounter of the first kind — witnessing UFOs soaring across the sky.

After this life-changing event, the inexplicable vision of a strange, mountain-like formation haunts him. He becomes obsessed with discovering what it represents, much to the dismay of his wife and family. Meanwhile, bizarre occurrences are happening around the world. Government agents have close encounters of the second kind — discovering physical evidence of extraterrestrial visitors in the form of a lost fighter aircraft from World War II and a stranded military ship that disappeared decades earlier only to suddenly reappear in unusual places.

Roy continues to chase his vision to a remote area where he and the agents follow the clues that have drawn them to reach a site where they will have a close encounter of the third kind — contact.

Come experience “Close Encounters of the Third Kind” the way it was meant to be seen — on the big screen — in this special nationwide encore.

“Close Encounters of the Third Kind” will be shown at the Alice Gill-Sheldon Theatre July 7 and 10. Showtimes will be Sunday, July 7 at 3:30 and 6:30 p.m.; and Wednesday, July 10 at 6:30 p.m.

Tickets are $12, or $9 for Film Festival members. For tickets and more information, please call 928-282-1177. Both the theatre and film festival office are located at 2030 W. Hwy. 89A, in West Sedona. For more information, visit: www.SedonaFilmFestival.org.
