logo_azdot2Sedona AZ (April 23, 2019) – Motorists who use State Route 179 between Sedona and Interstate 17, through the Village of Oak Creek, should expect long delays in both directions of travel starting Monday, May 13, because of pavement-preservation work.

Pavement work is scheduled to occur during daylight hours over five days between the Red Rock Ranger Station and the Chapel Road roundabout.

Motorists should expect long delays as pilot cars guide drivers through lane closures in 3-mile segments. Flaggers and pilot cars will provide traffic control through the work zone. Flaggers will also be on site to maintain access to businesses, communities and local streets throughout the project area.

Speeds limits will be reduced. ADOT urges motorists to use caution around construction personnel and equipment. Learn more about this project on the project website.
Schedules are subject to change based on weather and other unforeseen factors. For more information, please call the ADOT Bilingual Project Information Line at 855.712.8530 or go to azdot.gov/contact and select Projects from the drop-down menu. For real-time highway conditions statewide, visit ADOT’s Traveler Information Site at www.az511.gov, follow ADOT on Twitter (@ArizonaDOT) or call 511, except while driving.

Tourist traffic takes a nose dive AFTER Memorial Day weekend. So since this is a couple weeks before that, there’s going to be lots of traffic and its going to be a nightmare! June would have been a much better month to shut down 179.

Too bad the plan for a 4 lane road for rt 179 didn’t go thru.. Thnk you all the short sighted people and groups (like Arizona Liberty)who were agaisnt it. Consider that when they come up with other plans and think they know all.

Also that 4 lane road with roundabouts down the hill from Jerome headed into Cottonwood is a great road which had INTELLIGENT planning and doesn’t distract from any natural beauty in that area.

179 should of been 2 lanes in both directions.

Do it like the Florida Keys… one lane IN, four lanes OUT.

Spent 1.5 hrs going 4 blocks in village of oak creek today 5/13. Poor, poor traffic flow planning. Why wasn’t this road closed and detoured? Long doesn’t adequately describe the wait. Long stretches where no cars were moving either direction.

    What Would I Change?

What would I change if I could? You and I both know I can’t, but it’s a fun exercise anyway. I would have been less of a know-it-all on my spiritual journey. It seems to be a side-effect of the path. Spiritual folks develop an all-knowing buffer to protect against their inevitable surrender to the unknown, but understanding that now didn’t make it gentler on me or those I loved, let alone those that I deemed not capable of getting it 😉 Yeah … I’d have dropped the spiritual snob act. I’d have recognized that spiritual radicals are only different on the outside from radical right Christians, and that the surface doesn’t really matter as much as I thought. We are all doing our couldn’t be otherwise things, playing our perfect roles. I’d have learned to bow down humbly before my fellow man, regardless of whether I agreed with him or not. We’re all in this together and not one of us will get out alive. Read more→
