City of Sedona ArizonaSedona AZ (March 22, 2019) – The Sedona Parks and Recreation Department needs lifeguards.

The department has delayed the pool opening date to May 1.  This date is dependent on staffing resources.  Despite various recruiting efforts, the city has not received enough lifeguard applications to staff the pool for spring operations.

Believe it or not, lifeguarding is no longer just a summer job for youth.   The parks and recreation department is targeting the older demographics hoping to recruit adults/seniors and retirees that are active and have flexible schedules that will allow them to work weekdays.  Benefits of the position include supplemental income, staying active and free entrance to swim and enjoy the amenities.  If you have flexible time, enjoy working with others and being outdoors, you may want to consider applying.

The Parks and Recreation Department is accepting applications for lifeguards and offering lifeguard certification courses. Candidates can apply for the job before taking the course and receiving their certification. Visit sedonaaz.gov/jobs for details.

If staffing does not become available, the community pool may not open until Memorial Day when high school and college students are available.

The Sedona Community Pool is located at 570 Posse Ground Rd. adjacent to West Sedona School.

City Council Weighs ATV Ban Ordinance Proposal
    By Tommy Acosta
The Sedona City Council at its May 23, 2023 meeting took no action on a proposed ordinance that would ban all off-road vehicles from being driven on state-owned public roads or streets owned by the city. The ordinance, spearheaded by Sedona Mayor Scott Jablow on the premise that such vehicles pose a risk to the health, safety and welfare of the community, would impose heavy fines to anyone driving the ATVs or OHVs on city streets, including S.R. 179 and S.R. 89A. ATV rental companies have admitted that such vehicles are not intended or designed to be driven on paved roads, yet, in Arizona, they are allowed to do so under Arizona Revised Statute 28-1174 (4B). Opponents against the ordinance argued at the meeting that if adopted the ban would cripple the ATV rental industry in Sedona and cause much hardship to the owners and employees, as it would effectively, as written, destroy their livelihood.
