SEDONA, Ariz. – With excavation of the Uptown Parking Garage complete, the city’s contractor, McCarthy Building Companies will begin construction of the garage structure at the end of May. The project is part of an effort to simplify parking and wayfinding in Uptown and will consist of a three-level garage for approximately 270 vehicles, with one level below grade.

Improving parking and congestion in Uptown Sedona is a key goal of the Sedona in Motion effort, which is based off the Transportation Master Plan. Together, the Forest Road Extension Project and the garage will lessen congestion by giving an option to avoid the “Y” and find parking quickly, provide improvements to Forest Road pedestrian safety with a shared use path along the new portion of the road and planned walking and biking improvements near the garage, and assist in more effective evacuation in case of an emergency.

This work will require the closure of the public parking area on Forest Road and lane closures, reduced speeds, rough road conditions and loud noise. Crews will work with drivers to maintain access throughout construction of the new parking garage. Construction will take place Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. with occasional work on Saturdays.

The new garage will also offer public restrooms, electric vehicle charging stations, an informational kiosk, a solar array, a police substation, historical plaques, bike spaces and a stop for the Sedona Shuttle. Construction is scheduled to be complete in mid-2026.
