    logo_sedonamuseum2Sedona AZ (December 3, 2014) – The Sedona Heritage Museum is hosting their annual “Christmas in the Park” FREE open house on Saturday, December 13 from 11:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. The event extends free admission to the museum and a day filled with special free activities as a holiday gift to residents and visitors.

    Everyone will be treated to hot apple cider, holiday cookies and free entertainment and activities. A fire will burn in the red rock fireplace of the old Jordan house and the museum will be decorated in vintage holiday decor. A tumbleweed “snowman’ will greet all guests.

    20141203_tumbleweed-and-woman1Sedona old-timers and descendants of local pioneer families, including one of the Jordan children F. Ruth Jordan Van Epps, Pat Schnebly Ceballos (Sedona’s granddaughter), and Patty Fox (ranch wife), will all be in the Museum exhibit rooms telling stories about early Sedona.

    Guests are invited to the activity room where volunteers will help them make a cornhusk doll ornament.
    Arizona and local authors will be signing copies of their books just in time for holiday gifts, including Lili Debarbieri and her “Location Filming in Arizona, the Screen Legacy of the Grand Canyon State”, Gene K. Garrison with her “Sedona Artists 1930-1999″, Rona Evartt and her new “Mabel & the Magic Ballet Slippers” a children’s book, and Alice V. Roberts and “The Hilltop Inn”, a romantic novel set in northern Arizona.

    Enjoy a free holiday music concert at 1:30 p.m. in the historic Fruit Packing Shed with a performance by the Big Park School choir. The Packing Shed is heated for concert-goers. Volunteers will demonstrate the historic apple sorting machine at 12:00 p.m. and 2:15 p.m.

    Sedona Gift Shop

    Museum admission, concert and all activities are free!

    Holiday shopping in the Museum’s Gift Shop will be a “must do”, as you take advantage of the shop’s annual sale. The Gift Shop carries many items made by local artists and crafters, along with many gifts for both kids and adults.

    The Symbolism of Jan. 6

    Don’t mess with symbols. Just ask author Dan Brown’s character Robert Landon. The worth of symbols cannot be measured. Symbols make the world-go-round. Symbols carry the weight of a thousand words and meanings. Symbols represent reality boiled down to the bone. Symbols evoke profound emotions and memories—at a very primal level of our being—often without our making rational or conscious connections. They fuel our imagination. Symbols enable us to access aspects of our existence that cannot be accessed in any other way. Symbols are used in all facets of human endeavor. One can only feel sorry for those who cannot comprehend the government’s response to the breech of the capital on January 6, with many, even pundits, claiming it was only a peaceful occupation. Regardless if one sees January 6 as a full-scale riot/insurrection or simply patriotic Americans demonstrating as is their right, the fact is the individuals involved went against a symbol, and this could not be allowed or go unpunished.
