Winner of both the Avery Fisher Career Grant (1987) and the Avery Fisher Prize (2000), David Shifrin is in constant demand as an orchestral soloist, recitalist and chamber music collaborator. He has performed with leading orchestras across the U.S. and internationally, has graced iconic venues like Carnegie Hall’s Zankel Hall and the Library of Congress as a recitalist, and is a sought-after collaborator with renowned artists and ensembles. A longtime artist member of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, he served as its Artistic Director for over a decade and held the same role for Portland’s Chamber Music Northwest for nearly 40 years. Shifrin’s award-winning discography includes recordings for Delos, Sony and Deutsche Grammophon, earning three Grammy nominations. A champion of contemporary repertoire, Shifrin has premiered works by esteemed composers such as John Adams and Aaron Jay Kernis. Recognized with numerous honors, including the Concert Artists Guild Virtuoso Award and the Richard J. Bogomolny National Service Award, Shifrin continues to expand the clarinet’s legacy as a performer, educator and advocate.
As one of America’s most esteemed and dedicated string quartets, the Miró Quartet consists of violinists David Ching and William Fedkenheuer, violist John Largess and cellist Joshua Gindele. The group has been labeled by The New Yorker as “furiously committed” and noted by the Cleveland Plain Dealer for its “exceptional tonal focus and interpretive intensity.” For over 25 years, the Miró Quartet has performed throughout the world on the most prestigious concert stages, earning accolades from critics and audiences alike. Based in Austin, Tex., and thriving on the area’s storied music scene, the Miró takes pride in finding new ways to communicate with audiences of all backgrounds while cultivating the longstanding tradition of chamber music.
