    … it takes a while, but with patience and understanding, trust and bonds that run deep can be and are established … this holds true in relationships between humans and between humans and animals. Life is good when we have such bonds, but like everything else in life they are fragile and need constant nurturing … part of our daily being.

    I took this shot last September on my trip back to the upper mid-west and at the home of friends with whom we go back to days before Corky and I were married. They live in a beautiful home on acreage in the woods north of Duluth, Minnesota. Lowell is feeding a chipmunk that he befriended over the course of the summer and it is scurrying up his leg to get his food … and then some more … he is obviously a well fed little guy. There is a hen Ruffed Grouse that has taken a fancy to him also and comes up to him when he is working back in the woods. Next year I’ll be heading back up there for another visit. Also had a great treat as they took me out to lunch at a back country bar in the woods … real honest to gosh cheeseburgers made by hand … authentic, like the people who live up there.

    Into a new day and week … first thing is to awake in the morning and give thanks … plan the day and head out to the deck for morning espresso whilst One takes up position and surveys her world … greet some friends as they walk by and then inside and get to work … or not.

    Have a beautiful day …  be a friend … keep breathing and smile … you are alive!

    Cheers,

    The joy of dawn, and peace abides with me;
    And though I know that I again shall see
    Dark fear with withered hand approach my sleep,
    More sure am I when lonely night shall flee,
    At dawn the sun will bring good cheer to me.

    If I Were Curtis Sliwa
    By Tommy Acosta

    One of my guilty little pleasures is imagining what I would do if I was in someone else’s shoes, especially politicians. In this essay I would love to jump into the shoes of Curtis Sliwa, a former New York City vigilante who founded the Guardian Angels and is now running as a Republican for mayor of his city.
