Sedona AZ (March 6, 2012) – Over the past four days, Sedona Police Department has received reports of four residential burglaries: Garnet Hill Drive, Zane Grey Drive, Badger Drive and Morgan Road. Entry was gained through a rear door and the homeowner’s luggage or similar container was used to take items out of the home. Items taken from these homes included jewelry and portable safes with personal papers.
Sedona Police Detectives are conducting follow up investigation on these crimes to develop leads to assist in identifying the person(s) involved in committing these offenses. The detectives are working closely with investigators from the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office who are looking into similar burglaries that have recently occurred in the Village of Oak Creek.
While the police department is hopeful that these suspects can be identified, there are some basic measures that residents can take to increase the security of their homes. These include:
- Make it a habit to lock and secure your doors and windows even when leaving for a short period of time. This includes setting your alarm system.
- If you are going to out of town for a few days, let a trusted neighbor know when you will be out of town and whether or not there should be anyone at your home.
- Setting your alarm even if you do have someone checking on the house or feeding your pets.
- Utilizing the Sedona Police Department’s Vacation Property Watch Program. The service is free and can be obtained by registering on-line through the Police Department at www.SedonaAZ.gov or calling the Police Department at 928-282-3100.
- Immediately report any suspicious activity in your neighborhood. You know what is normal and who should be in your neighborhood. Please call the Sedona Police Department at 982-282-3100 to report anything suspicious or out of the ordinary.
Please remember, if you should arrive home and discover an open door or a damaged door, do not go in your home as someone may still be in your house. Return to your vehicle or go to a neighbor’s house and call 9-1-1 or the Sedona Police Department at 928-282-3100.
