VVHS and Town of Camp Verde Part Ways

logo_vvhsCottonwood AZ (January 16, 2020) – In 2019, the Verde Valley Humane Society (VVHS) assisted 145 pets from the Town of Camp Verde.  However, despite months of work, VVHS has been unable to negotiate an agreement to renew their animal sheltering contract with the Town of Camp Verde.

Effective January 15, 2020, Verde Valley Humane Society will no longer be able to accept lost, stray and unowned animals from residents of the Town of Camp Verde.  VVHS will be referring inquiries regarding those animals to the Animal Control division of the Camp Verde Marshall’s Office at 928-554-8370.

VVHS will continue to do their best to help by taking in owner surrendered animals from the Town on a space-available basis.  Surrender fees will apply as always.

What on earth is happening to people. Camp Verde will no longer fund their Humane Society, the shelter cannot negotiate an agreement with the Council. What could be so hard? If one of them has a dog who gets loose and has no id on him and is lost and someone “kind” person finds him. How will the owner find him? Normally he would have been taken to their shelter where his owner who “supposedly” loves him would look. He won’t be there thanks to the Camp Verde Council. Since I have lived in Sedona I have adopted five shelter animals and I am so glad they were there to bring me so much joy. What is the Marshall’s office going to do with lost animals? I would like to know? Since this is the way Camp Verde would treat pet animals what must they be doing to their wildlife?
This is a true “Badge of Shame” on Camp Verde.

This is also a “Badge of Shame” on VVHS, which is a non-profit. The fact that certain jurisdictions include VVHS in their budget is a big plus to this organization, but the majority of funds come from donors who think they are supporting the Verde Valley. For an organization whose name reflects the Verde Valley to be selective in what parts of the Verde Valley they serve is unconsciousable. Shame!
