logo_UniversityWomenOfSedonaSedona AZ (February 21, 2014) – Mary Heyborne will read her poetry at the University Women of Sedona meeting at 10 a.m., Monday, March 3, at The Church of the Red Rocks.

Heyborne’s poems have appeared in numerous magazines, journals, and anthologies, and her three full-length books of poetry – Who’ll Pick the Morning Rose, Ephemerons, and Words and Other Lovers – are enjoyed by readers internationally. About her poetry, Jim Natal, noted poet and author of Memory and Rain, says “Mary Heyborne’s passion for poetry infuses every line . . . . . Whether she’s musing on the Romantic poets or particle physics, the meaning of another sunrise or another loss, she writes with the sharpest of artistic eyes and the deepest of poetic hearts.”

photo_maryheyborneHeyborne is a supporter and frequent reader at poetry venues throughout Northern Arizona. In 2006, she founded Poets Corner at Sedona Arts Center, dedicating this favored spot to “the creation, presentation, and celebration of poetry.” In 2012, Sedona’s new Pumphouse Prose and Poetry Project presented her their first annual Christopher Lane Award, given “in recognition of her contribution to the literary life of Northern Arizona.”

Heyborne is also a well-known Sedona potter. In addition, she has had four short plays presented by the Arizona Women’s Theatre Company in Scottsdale and Mesa, AZ.

University Women of Sedona meets the first Monday of each month, October through May, from 9:30 to 11 a.m at The Church of the Red Rocks, with an annual scholarship luncheon in June. After a half-hour social gathering at 9:30, influential speakers from the area present educational and entertaining programs, followed by a business meeting.

The main goal of University Women of Sedona is to provide scholarships to women in the area who are striving to continue their education. UWS welcomes new members: Women with a college or university degree who are interested in joining may find more information by visiting the UWS website  or by emailing universitywmnsedona@gmail.com.
