Sedona AZ (February 14, 2014) – When I reflect on Valentine’s Day, I think of these symbols:  hearts, chocolate, flowers, and Cupid, the Roman god of love. While Valentine’s Day may be about romance, it seems like the perfect time to express appreciation for generous acts of kindness that I have witnessed while working at Sedona Public Library in the Village.

photo_cherylyeattsIf you visited the Library in November and December, you had the opportunity to admire the beautiful, colorful quilts on display. Over the past several years, the Red Rock Quilters have created and donated quilts to Camp Soaring Eagle campers twice a year during Family Weekend Retreats at the Briar Patch Inn in Oak Creek Canyon.

This year, the Red Rock Quilters agreed to display the quilts at SPL-V and to raffle one of the quilts as a fundraiser for Camp Soaring Eagle and Sedona Public Library in the Village.

On Saturday, January 11, Sharon Elaine was elated to learn that she won the quilt raffle. Sharon has been a quilter for 13 years. She always purchases raffle tickets, and this is the first time she has won a quilt.  She and her husband hail from Washington and have been coming to Sedona for 10 years. This is the fifth year they have returned to Arizona as winter visitors, and they enjoy the warm community feeling the Village offers.

Many thanks to the Red Rock Quilters for sharing their spectacular quilts and to everyone who contributed to this fundraiser for Camp Soaring Eagle and Sedona Public Library in the Village.

The Library would also like to thank two book clubs, “Books ‘n Babes” and “The Bookies,” for their generous donations to SPL-V. Instead of exchanging holiday gifts, these literary ladies made charitable contributions to the Library. What a great idea!

If you would like to support the Library, now is the time to join Friends of Sedona Library. The 2014 membership campaign is underway. Recently, residents of the Sedona area were mailed an invitation to join or renew their membership in the Friends of the Library. Please return your completed membership form (also available at the Library) and be a Friend. It’s a valuable investment in your Library’s future.

The Friends provide more than $100,000 annually toward the Library’s budget. Book sales and other fundraisers bring in more than half of this amount, but the membership drive is still a priority. Your financial assistance is much appreciated.

Sedona Public Library in the Village is located at 7000 Highway 179, Suite C-102, in the courtyard of Tequa Plaza. Library hours are 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Library is closed Sunday and Monday. When the Library is closed, please return library materials to the book drop box. You may also call the main Library at 928.282.7714 if you need assistance when SPL-V is closed. Contact Cheryl Yeatts, Manager, at 928.284.1603 or voc@sedonalibrary.org if you have questions or need directions to SPL-V.
