YAVAPAI COUNTY, AZ — In a time when many LGBTQ+ youth continue to navigate social, financial, and personal challenges, PFLAG Sedona/Verde Valley and Unify Sedona are proud to invest in the next generation of leaders through the Jacqueline Richardson and James Dunne Scholarship.

Now in its ninth year, this scholarship supports LGBTQ+ students and straight allies who demonstrate integrity, resilience, leadership, and a commitment to uplifting their communities. The program honors the legacy of Jacqueline Richardson and James Dunne and reflects the shared mission of both organizations: ensuring that every person has the opportunity to be seen, supported, and celebrated.

    Eligible applicants include:

    • Ages 18–35
    • High school seniors or current college students
    • Residents of Sedona, the Verde Valley, Prescott, Prescott Valley, or Chino Valley
    • Students planning to attend a post-secondary institution within one year

Applicants must submit a completed application, transcripts, required essays, and two or more letters of recommendation.

All application materials must be received by February 28, 2026.

“Education changes lives,” said JJ O’Brien, President of PFLAG Sedona/Verde Valley. “Through this scholarship, we affirm students’ identities, honor their courage, and invest in their future.”

“This scholarship sends a powerful message to LGBTQ+ youth and their allies that they are valued and their leadership matters,” said Jan Montgomery, President of Unify Sedona. “When we invest in young people, we strengthen the future of our entire community.”

Applications and full details are available online at:

Questions may be directed to: pflagsedonascholarship@gmail.com

For LGBTQ+ youth and allies who have shown strength in the face of adversity and dedication to their community, this scholarship represents more than financial assistance — it is a message that they belong and their future matters.
