Sedona, AZ — The Jewish Community of Sedona and the Verde Valley, located at 100 Meadowlark Drive off Route 179 in Sedona, is a welcoming, egalitarian, inclusive congregation dedicated to building a link from the past to the future by providing religious, educational, social and cultural experiences.

All are invited to Erev Shabbat service on Friday, January 30 at 5:30 pm. Join in singing songs to usher in the Sabbath, prayers of healing for loved ones, congratulations for those celebrating a birthday or anniversary, and Kaddish, the Mourner’s prayer in memory of those who have passed away recently or around this date in past years. The Torah portion is Beshallach, containing the “Song of the Sea” sung by Moses, Miriam and the Israelites as they crossed the sea on dry land miraculously. The Shalom Singers choir will enhance the service with their joyous music. Members will dance through the sanctuary with tambourines as did Miriam and the women in joy and gratitude. Kiddush and Motzi (blessings over the wine/juice and challah) and socializing follow the service.
Tu B’Shevat, the New Year of the Tress, will be celebrated at noon on Sunday, February 1, in the parking lot with a “walk-around” of the property led by Joe Berger, explaining the connection of varieties of trees planted on the grounds and their relationship to similar trees in modern Israel and as described in the Bible. At 12:45 pm there will be a presentation in the social hall by Zach Silverman, representing the Jewish National Fund, about tree-planting, infrastructure and land use in Israel. Refreshments will be on the theme of “food from trees” – nuts, fruit, and also chocolate!
Egalitarian, participatory Morning Minyan meets on zoom every Wednesday at 8:30 am with traditional morning blessings, healing prayers, and Kaddish, the mourner’s prayer. Come be counted in our minyan! Link on the website
Meditation class, led by Rosalie Malter and Rabbi Magal, will meet on Wednesday, February 4 at 4:00 pm on zoom. Focus includes sacred text, holiday themes, and other gateways to meditation.
Torah study group, led by Rabbi Magal, will meet on Thursday, February 5, at 4:00 pm on zoom. The Torah portion of that week is Yitro (Exodus 18:1-20:23) In this portion, Moses tells his father-in-law, Jethro (Yitro), about the miracle of the Exodus. Jethro advises Moses to delegate leadership roles in order to not tire himself out. The Israelites camp at the bottom of Mount Sinai. After three days, the mountain was fills with smoke and God delivers the Ten Commandments to His people through Moses.
The Social Action Committee is collecting non-perishable foods, as well as infant formula and feminine hygiene products, for the local Sedona food pantry. Please drop off your donations in the bin provided for collections located at the bottom of the stairs in the parking lot.
