The powerful true story about journalist Anna Politkovskaya’s brave crusade

Sedona, AZ — The Sedona International Film Festival is proud to present the Northern Arizona premiere of “Words of War” showing June 27-July 3 at the Mary D. Fisher and Alice Gill-Sheldon Theatres.

From executive producer Sean Penn comes the powerful true story of journalist Anna Politkovskaya.

In a world silenced by fear, her truth was unstoppable.

Journalist Anna Politkovskaya’s brave crusade — fighting to be an independent voice of truth for the Russian people — puts her life in jeopardy. She refused to give up reporting on the war in Chechnya despite numerous acts of intimidation and violence, including being poisoned.

Anna was ultimately silenced, one of more than 1,800 journalists killed so far this century while pursuing a story. But her legacy lives on.

Anna’s story serves as a reminder of the dangers journalists face and the importance of protecting their right to report truthfully without fear of death or reprisal.

“Journalists are as essential to all our freedoms as air,” said Sean Penn. “‘Words of War’ is a tribute to Anna Politkovskaya and journalists around the world, whose fearless reporting of savage wars and unvarnished criticism of savage leaders are essential to all our freedoms.”

“This film succeeds beautifully as cinema and its drama will entertain you, while equally serving as a meditation on the ways we can regroup our sense of our own place, of what our voices must do.”

“Words of War” will be shown at the Mary D. Fisher and Alice Gill-Sheldon Theatres June 27-July 3. Showtimes will be Friday, Sunday, Wednesday and Thursday, June 27, 29, July 2 and 3 at 4:00 p.m.; Saturday, June 28 at 3:30 p.m.; and Monday and Tuesday, June 30 and July 1 at 7:00 p.m.

Tickets are $12, or $9 for Film Festival members. For tickets and more information, please call 928-282-1177. Both the theatre and film festival office are located at 2030 W. Hwy. 89A, in West Sedona. For more information, visit: www.SedonaFilmFestival.org.
