    Volunteers Needed to Serve on Sustainability Commission

    City of Sedona ArizonaSedona AZ (February 6, 2013) – The City of Sedona is currently seeking to fill three vacancies on the Sustainability Commission. The vacancies are for three-year terms from January 1, 2013 through December 31, 2015.

    This nine-member Commission makes recommendations regarding sustainable related practices and policies to the City Council. Specific responsibilities include: developing an outreach and education program that informs, engages and promotes sustainable practices; review and propose sustainability related policies; advice on policy matters related to sustainable practices including: energy, air, water, waste, green infrastructure, built environment, transportation, and sustainable products and businesses. The Sustainability Commission will also participate in assisting the City in updating its Community Plan over the next few years.     Sustainability Commission meetings are generally held the fourth Wednesday of each month at 9 a.m. Application packets are available from the City Clerk’s office at 102 Roadrunner Drive or by calling 282-3113. Return completed applications to the City of Sedona, City Clerk’s office at 102 Roadrunner Drive, Sedona, AZ 86336. The deadline to submit applications to be considered to serve on the Sustainability Commission is Friday, February 15, 2013 at 5:00 p.m.

    The Symbolism of Jan. 6

    Don’t mess with symbols. Just ask author Dan Brown’s character Robert Landon. The worth of symbols cannot be measured. Symbols make the world-go-round. Symbols carry the weight of a thousand words and meanings. Symbols represent reality boiled down to the bone. Symbols evoke profound emotions and memories—at a very primal level of our being—often without our making rational or conscious connections. They fuel our imagination. Symbols enable us to access aspects of our existence that cannot be accessed in any other way. Symbols are used in all facets of human endeavor. One can only feel sorry for those who cannot comprehend the government’s response to the breech of the capital on January 6, with many, even pundits, claiming it was only a peaceful occupation. Regardless if one sees January 6 as a full-scale riot/insurrection or simply patriotic Americans demonstrating as is their right, the fact is the individuals involved went against a symbol, and this could not be allowed or go unpunished.
