… it was a very cool overcast day on Lake Pleasant today, and as usual, we launched not knowing what, or if we would find anything to shoot. It ended up an utterly fantastic shooting day with numerous opportunities to get great shots … I got some hits and some misses and even the misses turned out to beautiful in their own way.

One of the hits I got is this shot of a pair of adult bald eagles perched on a tree that is not yet submerged … the male is on the top perch and the larger female is perched on the lower limb. The inflight shots I got are also really good, but to have two perched in this manner was a first for me. The courting rituals will begin in a couple of weeks and I’m planning on a lot of time down there trying to get that.

There are misses too, and the shot below is an example of just plain blowing a shot … we were close to and jumped a large flock of common mergansers and on one of the opportunities my panning was a wee bit behind the birds. Using a shotgun you lead the birds because it takes time for the load of shot to get there and if you hold on the bird, the shot will pass behind it … shooting with a camera is much more simple, because the image reaches the sensor at the speed of light and all you have to do is keep the bird in the frame … whoops! The eruptions in the water are from the merganser’s feet throwing up splashes of water as he propels himself over the water whilst picking up speed to enter flight … and I liked the image of a miss … I did get dozens of them in the frame too, but this seems special!

Tomorrow is a catch up day for emails and I apologize for getting so far behind …

Live your life … how you do it is your choice always … choose joy and share it with others … a simple smile will do the trick! Keep breathing too 🙂

    With Joy!

    Ted

“Oh God, I love thy world!”
And since that waking, often I drink deep the joy of dawn, and peace abides with me; and though I know that I again shall see dark fear with withered hand approach my sleep, more sure am I when lonely night shall flee, at dawn the sun will bring good cheer to me.
