Verde Historical SocietyCottonwood AZ (May 11, 2021) – The Verde Historical Society and Clemenceau Heritage Museum continue to receive gifts of support from its membership since beginning its corporate and institutional memberships.  The Salt River Materials Group-Phoenix Cement Plant, in conjunction with Verde Valley Newspapers, provide display advertising assistance for the Society’s major fund-raising events, while the Cottonwood Chamber of Commerce and the Old Town Association help to keep the museum and its activities in front of the tourism industry. The Wyoming Division Historical Society, a model railroad organization located in Cornville, AZ., provides and guides the ongoing maintenance of the Verde Valley Railroads diorama exhibit by keeping the trains running at the museum.

The Verde Canyon Railroad in Clarkdale, provided two adult passes for round-trip scenic excursions which will be the grand prize for a new membership drawing leading to available funds that will support the railroad exhibit. The Mingus Gem and Mineral Club provides the museum with the opportunity to host promotional programs and activities for kids at their gem and mineral shows, Clarkdale Rocks, which will commence again on September, 23-25, 2021 and in spring of 2022. The society and museum holds a close relationship with the Cottonwood/Oak Creek School District where the society and museum partners with the school district for space in the building and grounds location, maintenance as well as many other areas of operation.

Individual members have also underwritten three new educational programs for children and families which will be available when the museum re-opens in June.  Merri Mornings for Kids at the Clemenceau is a program for young children ages three to six that allows a child, accompanied by an adult, to experience its first museum visit on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings between 9:30 & 11:30.  “All Aboard!” Early Railroad History in the Verde Valley will be offered on Saturday family days during the hours of 11:30 to 2:30 and offers an opportunity for all generations together to learn about the historic railroads of the mining industry while watching the working trains traverse the hills and valleys of the Verde Valley. Geology Rocks at the Clemenceau Heritage Museum is held in the museum in conjunction with the Mingus Gem and Mineral Club’s shows twice a year.  Each program is a self-guided tour having a take-along booklet or informational packet about topics in museum exhibits and includes color pages, word games, and learning activities guided by the Arizona State Standards for teaching children.
