Jerome AZ (June 26, 2014) – Gallery 527 hosts The Stain of Politics 7 on July 5th from 5 to 8pm. This yearly July show began as a comment on the world around us and has evolved into less of a visual arts show and more of a performing arts event. Christopher Fox Graham will bring a group of talented artists for a night of poetry of all sorts with music by local favorite Dave Rentz. Dave is a multi-instrumentalist and improvisational artist who combines music, percussion, comedy, audience participation, plus whatever happens to pop into his fertile imagination. His past sessions with the slam poets have been most memorable.

20140626_Shiva1Christopher Fox Graham is a poet and professional writer living in Sedona, Arizona. Beginning his performance poetry career in October 2000, Graham has been a member of six Flagstaff National Poetry Slam teams, representing Flagstaff in 2001, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2010 and 2012. Graham was part of the Save the Male Tour, a four-man international spoken word tour in 2002 that performed in 26 states over three months. Graham won the Flagstaff Poetry Grand Slam championship in 2004 and 2012. In his spare time, he is managing editor at Larsen Newspapers. Gallery 527 is proud to host Fox and the exceptional artists who will perform on July 5th.

Michael Gallagher of The Wary Buffalo will contribute his yearly cartoon and new to the gallery, artist Rhonda Zwillinger’s mixed media pieces, The Dada Toys, will be on display. Rhonda was on the cutting edge of post feminist art in Soho in the 1980’s when she became critically ill with Multiple Chemical Sensitivity or Environmental Sickness. Her life has taken some odd twists that brought her to a remote area of Northern Arizona where she has continued to create spectacular works of art using beads, crystals, semi precious stones, and armatures that range from farm implements to antlers. Rhonda is back and you have never seen anything like this work. Stop by Gallery 527 for a glimpse at some of her smaller pieces and discuss her other massive creations with gallery owner Donna Chesler. Poets will perform at 6pm and again at 7pm. Gallery artists Susan Pitcairn, Ardis Harsche, Marian Ward, Sallie Cross, Lorraine Fexas, Brandi Lee Cooper and Mary Phoenix will all be on hand to discuss their work and perhaps be showing a few new pieces. The Symbolism of Jan. 6

    By Tommy Acosta
Don’t mess with symbols. Just ask author Dan Brown’s character Robert Landon. The worth of symbols cannot be measured. Symbols make the world-go-round. Symbols carry the weight of a thousand words and meanings. Symbols represent reality boiled down to the bone. Symbols evoke profound emotions and memories—at a very primal level of our being—often without our making rational or conscious connections. They fuel our imagination. Symbols enable us to access aspects of our existence that cannot be accessed in any other way. Symbols are used in all facets of human endeavor. One can only feel sorry for those who cannot comprehend the government’s response to the breech of the capital on January 6, with many, even pundits, claiming it was only a peaceful occupation. Regardless if one sees January 6 as a full-scale riot/insurrection or simply patriotic Americans demonstrating as is their right, the fact is the individuals involved went against a symbol, and this could not be allowed or go unpunished.
