    Sedona UMC Hosts Annual Holiday Boutique

    Sedona AZ (November 8, 2016) – Sedona United Methodist Church will present their annual Holiday Boutique on Saturday, November 12th from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00p.m.   in the church’s Fellowship Hall. It is the perfect place to find handcrafted gift items for all your family and friends.

    This sale will feature artists and crafters from the congregation as well as members of the community.   Items will include whimsical art, hand painted silk scarves, pottery with a purpose, hand sewn items, baked goods, batik-decorated eggs, dichroic glass plates, Christmas decorations and much more.   The Holiday Boutique showcases the diversity of talent in the community.  

    This year, the boutique features many popular Sedona artists including Carol Redenbaugh,   Morna Paule, Joyce Killebrew Barnett, Patti Hodel, Jan Saunders, Marge Schwartz, Betty Parker, Paytone Delmars, Karen Hammer, Janet Mansoldo, Donna Werner, Genevieve Charlie, Claudia Cook, Anna Dickenson, Deborah Etgen, Margo Braman, Jim Prkye and the PEO Chapter DS.

    This year, the Sedona UMC Crafters will also have a table featuring their “Story of Jesus” Bracelets.   These lovely and meaningful bracelets tell the story of Christ’s Life through symbolic beads.

    During the sale, there will be door prizes.   Each artist will donate an item for the drawings which will occur throughout the day.   Winners must be present to win. Also, the SUMC Men’s Group will offer breakfast items and coffee during the morning and a cookout lunch.   Starting at 11:30a.m. until 1:00p.m. the men will be barbecuing hamburgers and hotdogs.   The meal will cost $6 and will include chips and a dessert.

    The Symbolism of Jan. 6

    Don’t mess with symbols. Just ask author Dan Brown’s character Robert Landon. The worth of symbols cannot be measured. Symbols make the world-go-round. Symbols carry the weight of a thousand words and meanings. Symbols represent reality boiled down to the bone. Symbols evoke profound emotions and memories—at a very primal level of our being—often without our making rational or conscious connections. They fuel our imagination. Symbols enable us to access aspects of our existence that cannot be accessed in any other way. Symbols are used in all facets of human endeavor. One can only feel sorry for those who cannot comprehend the government’s response to the breech of the capital on January 6, with many, even pundits, claiming it was only a peaceful occupation. Regardless if one sees January 6 as a full-scale riot/insurrection or simply patriotic Americans demonstrating as is their right, the fact is the individuals involved went against a symbol, and this could not be allowed or go unpunished.
