    Sedona AZ (May 14, 2019) – The Sedona International Film Festival is proud to present the Northern Arizona premiere of “Agave: The Spirit of a Nation” on Thursday, May 23 at 4 and 7 p.m. at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre.

    At this special event, guests will have the opportunity to watch “Agave: The Spirit of a Nation” and are invited to sample Mezcales and Tequilas from Mexico between the film screenings. This will be a treat for all the senses, as we take a journey to explore the culture of México through film and fine tequila. The brands of samples represented include: El Tesoro, Mezcal Vago and Tequila Fortaleza, among others.

    “Agave: The Spirit of a Nation” explores the fastest trending spirit in the world, Tequila and Mezcal. This journey takes us to the world’s most biodiverse landscape of the agave plant, Mexico; here families have been passing down the tradition of distilling agave for generations.

    From the alluring red highlands of Jalisco to the rugged mountains of Oaxaca the film follows three producers — Carlos, Graciela and Aquilino — in this burgeoning renaissance. From a bootstrap ambition to carrying on a father’s legacy, their successes and sacrifices unfurl in this interweaved story. Discover how one delicate plant can carry the weight of a nation and the people trying to protect it for the future.

    Come enjoy an award-winning documentary and sample Mezcales and Tequilas from Mexico, which is included in the ticket price. The sampling will take place between the film screenings — after the 4 p.m. film and before the 7 p.m. showing.

    “Agave: The Spirit of a Nation” will show at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre on Thursday, May 23 at 4 and 7 p.m. Tickets are $12 general admission, or $9 for Film Festival members.     The Symbolism of Jan. 6

    Don’t mess with symbols. Just ask author Dan Brown’s character Robert Landon. The worth of symbols cannot be measured. Symbols make the world-go-round. Symbols carry the weight of a thousand words and meanings. Symbols represent reality boiled down to the bone. Symbols evoke profound emotions and memories—at a very primal level of our being—often without our making rational or conscious connections. They fuel our imagination. Symbols enable us to access aspects of our existence that cannot be accessed in any other way. Symbols are used in all facets of human endeavor. One can only feel sorry for those who cannot comprehend the government’s response to the breech of the capital on January 6, with many, even pundits, claiming it was only a peaceful occupation. Regardless if one sees January 6 as a full-scale riot/insurrection or simply patriotic Americans demonstrating as is their right, the fact is the individuals involved went against a symbol, and this could not be allowed or go unpunished.
