Verde Valley Imagination Library (VVIL)Cottonwood AZ (January 22, 2020) – Mark your calendars for Blazin’ for Books, the first Celebration and Fundraiser for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library in the Verde Valley, to be held Feb. 23, 5:00 to 8:30 p.m. at the Blazin’ M Ranch, 1875 Mabery Ranch Rd, Cottonwood, AZ 86326.

Tickets are $50 per person and include a Chuckwagon dinner, special entertainment, raffle, silent and live auctions, and more. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Verde Valley Imagination Library (VVIL), the local affiliate that funds Dolly Parton’s program. Each month, 2000 Verde Valley children ages 0 to 5 receive a free age-appropriate book labelled in their name, mailed directly to their home. The program costs $30 per child, per year for 12 quality books chosen by an advisory panel of educators.

“Babies are born listening and learning. Ninety percent of a child’s brain develops before kindergarten and reading together builds vocabulary and language, the foundation for literacy. Parent really are the first teachers,” said Dr. Jean Barton, Director of Enrollment and Promotion for the Verde Valley program. “We want every child to be ready to succeed in school “

The Verde Valley Imagination Library is an All-Volunteer-Organization that depends on community support. Newborn nurses, children’s librarians, Head Start and preschool directors help parents enroll. This year’s funders include all Rotary Clubs in the Verde Valley, United Way of Yavapai County, Yavapai Title Agency’s employee giving and other individual donors. Help us sustain this wonderful program.

    The Bloody Machine
    By Tommy Acosta
What is a life anyway? A single “life?” Is it nothing more than a collection of emotions and thoughts, reverberating pain and pleasure, hopes, dreams and fear? Are we merely meat; flesh and blood creations encapsulating what we believe is a soul? Or is a single life the microcosm and macrocosm of human life on earth, each one of us a unique representation of who we believe we are and the whole of humanity at once? We are born. We grow old. We die. Everything we experience is but a dream between those two points. Or are we manifestations of a Divine Creator, every one of us complete in the image that we were made? So, we are told.
