The glamour and glitz of the holiday season does not have to end now that January is here. Fight the winter doldrums and keep the party going with a colorful new painting, eye-catching bronze sculpture or sparkling piece of jewelry. Rowe Fine Art Gallery will present New Year, New ARTmosphere on Jan. 1 from 5 to 8 p.m. as part of the Sedona Gallery Association’s 1st Friday Gallery Tour. Toast the new year with gallery owners Ken and Monica Rowe and get a glimpse of what the gallery’s esteemed artists have been up to for the past couple of months.

Our wildlife artists immerse themselves in nature in order to create inspired works of art. Bring one of these artworks into your home – or choose a piece of wearable art – and see how it inspires you to live your best life in 2016.”

Rowe Fine Art Gallery represents traditional and contemporary southwestern artists including sculptors Kim Kori, Alvin Marshall, Erik Petersen, Ken Rowe, Jason Scull and Joshua Tobey; painters Larisa Aukon, Julie T. Chapman, Kim Diment, Vince Fazio, Lynn Heil, Sue Krzyston, John Poon, John Rasberry and Gabor Svagrik; graphite artist Jack Morley; jewelers Cherie Danielle, Jennifer Inge, Liam Herbert and Nicolai Medvedev; and the handcrafted knives of Ken Steigerwalt.

    The Symbolism of Jan. 6

    By Tommy Acosta
Don’t mess with symbols. Just ask author Dan Brown’s character Robert Landon. The worth of symbols cannot be measured. Symbols make the world-go-round. Symbols carry the weight of a thousand words and meanings. Symbols represent reality boiled down to the bone. Symbols evoke profound emotions and memories—at a very primal level of our being—often without our making rational or conscious connections. They fuel our imagination. Symbols enable us to access aspects of our existence that cannot be accessed in any other way. Symbols are used in all facets of human endeavor. One can only feel sorry for those who cannot comprehend the government’s response to the breech of the capital on January 6, with many, even pundits, claiming it was only a peaceful occupation. Regardless if one sees January 6 as a full-scale riot/insurrection or simply patriotic Americans demonstrating as is their right, the fact is the individuals involved went against a symbol, and this could not be allowed or go unpunished.
