Sedona, AZ — This is Donna Michaels and as your current Yavapai County  Supervisor I would like to share with you a few examples of my proven successes benefiting District 3.

     • Breaking news! Supervisor Michaels opposes the Sedona City Council proposal for constructing multiple crossings over the sacred Red Rock Crossing at the end of Verde Valley School Road connecting to West Sedona. This proposal is completely lacking any due diligence. Perhaps looking at better and more appropriate ways to solve the access to West Sedona. This is premature at best and folly at worst.

    • Infrastructure: Played Major Role in securing over $45 million in federal funds for infrastructure throughout the county of which $20 million is specifically earmarked for broadband. Personally directed $15 million from the county budget to improve infrastructure within District 3.
    • Community Advocate: Actively investigating community concerns surrounding the Cottonwood Slag Pile and documented health-related issues.
    • Agriculture Advocacy: Brought the head of the US Forest Service to Yavapai County for a historic meeting with US Rep. Crane, AZ State Senator Bennett, and State Reps Bliss and Gosar, addressing critical cattle grazing and OHV issues firsthand.

Precedent-setting meeting resulted in USFS Memo of understanding for cattle permittee allotments and first-time TOP level Federal awareness of the OHV issues on our public lands.

    • Affordable Housing: Only Supervisor to advocate for site rent stabilization for manufactured home park residents throughout District 3 and the state.
    • Verde Valley Regenerative Practices: Only Supervisor to bring top state officials to Yavapai County to secure grants and raise awareness for restoring our soil and ecosystem, all while promoting affordable housing and workforce development.
    • Consumer Protection: Only Yavapai County Supervisor to lobby the Arizona House and Senate to support House Bill 2244 for accurate meat labeling.
    • American Viticulture Area (AVA) Accreditation for the Verde Valley:Collaborated to secure accreditation which increased price point and attracts visitors to the “Heart of Arizona Wine Country”.
    • National Ag & Rural Affairs committee appointee: Only Supervisor selected to help shape national policies for our state and county.
    • Safeguarding our public lands through Off-Highway Vehicle legislation and collaboration with State Legislators.  SB 1176 and SB 1567 provided funding necessary for sheriff’s offices statewide, mandated education, and damage mitigation for our open spaces and private property owners. Donna then assured that the funding was properly directed administratively. Donna testifies before the AZ House Appropriations Committee at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pUPQrtHCu-Y&t=8s.  Legislative history for both bills is found at: https://apps.azleg.gov/BillStatus/BillOverview/80637 .

Vote for Vice Chair Supervisor Donna Michaels Election Day – July 30, 2024

Endorsed by Former Governors, Secretaries of State, AZ Senators, Legislators and residents in District 3 and throughout the state!

    ____________________________________________

The following is an endorsement by former Sedona City Council Vice-Mayor Ernie Strauch:

C’mon People Now – Smile on your brother (sister)…

These powerful lyrics from the Youngbloods’ 1967 song “Let’s Get Together” resonate deeply today. For me, they hold a special significance. In January 1967, I returned from military service in Taiwan and Vietnam amid violent protests against the war. My only daughter was born that October, and I remember playing this song as a meaningful lullaby for both of us.

This message isn’t about opposing anyone or anything. Instead, it’s about highlighting a few overlooked facts that should influence your decision when voting for Yavapai County Supervisor.

Fact #1: Sedona has no Democratic Party Affiliate, as affiliates cannot endorse candidates before a Primary Election. I honor DORR as an Independent Democratic view-espousing organization. As such, each voter should Independently decide who is the best Candidate.

Fact #2:  All other Yavapai County Districts lean heavily conservative Republican. So, the make-up of the Board of Supervisors for the foreseeable future will be 4 Republicans vs. 1 possible Democrat.  Do any fellow Democrats see a challenge with this?  What is required of any District 3 Supervisor to succeed for her district, and the county?

Fact #3:  Our full Board of Supervisors elected Democrat Donna Michaels as their Vice-Chair. Her ability to function and collaborate in this role, under challenging circumstances, speaks volumes about her capabilities.

Fact #4:  Accomplishments Matter!  Supervisor Michaels has been extraordinarily effective in    bringing attention and vision to matters within her District and Yavapai County.  Here are a few:

    • Leading the charge in protecting our water: As a founding member of the AZ Coalition for Groundwater Legislation in rural areas, Donna informed the Governor’s Water Policy Council to advocate for legislation ensuring rural water security.
    • Played a Major Role in securing $45,665,225 in federal funding for county infrastructure improvementssuch as roads, water, broadband, Jerome slide mitigation and flood mitigation.
    • Redirected $500,000 to keep all 15 county libraries open during a significant budget crisis caused by the pandemic, while also enhancing library services.

Donna is naturally a “workaholic” who excels in research and collaboration with key stakeholders, both inside and outside of government, to positively impact our Verde Valley communities.

I believe Donna deserves the opportunity to secure more funding and bring multi-year projects to completion.  We can’t afford to lose all that continuous, ground-breaking collaboration.

    * Paid for by Donna Michaels for Supervisor Campaign Committee.

    The Politics of Pain

If there’s one thing nearly every living organism on this planet shares, it is the ability to feel pain. The pain of hunger. Of loneliness. Of illness. The pain of broken bones and broken bodies, broken hearts and broken homes. The pain of poverty, depression, the death of someone we love—and, eventually, the anticipation of our own death. Pain, in all its shapes and shadows, is the one certainty life gives us all. No one escapes it.
