    LWVGVV hosts Candidates Forum – Clarkdale Town Council

    logo_leagueofwomenvotersClarkdale AZ (August 5, 2016) – The League of Women Voters of Greater Verde Valley is hosting a Candidates Forum for Clarkdale Town Council on Thursday, August 11, 2016 at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 899 First South Street, Clarkdale. The forum will begin at 6:30 and end at 8:00 pm. This forum will be videotaped by Verde Valley Television for broadcast on CABLEONE CHANNEL 56 and SUDDENLINK CHANNEL 2 and on YouTube at (https://www.youtube.com/user/VerdeValleyTV).

    Candidates for two 4-year seats include incumbents Richard Dehnert and Scott Buckley and write-in candidate Tommy Nester.  The candidates will be speaking about what issues they see are important to the residents of Clarkdale and how they propose to work on them.  Forum attendees will also have the opportunity to ask questions of the candidates.

    It is important that ALL registered voters VOTE in this primary election especially “non-designated/independent” voters!  A number of races will be decided in this election – local town/city councils and mayors, county supervisor, county assessor, county constable along with ballot measures in Camp Verde, Clarkdale, and Jerome.

    The Symbolism of Jan. 6

    Don’t mess with symbols. Just ask author Dan Brown’s character Robert Landon. The worth of symbols cannot be measured. Symbols make the world-go-round. Symbols carry the weight of a thousand words and meanings. Symbols represent reality boiled down to the bone. Symbols evoke profound emotions and memories—at a very primal level of our being—often without our making rational or conscious connections. They fuel our imagination. Symbols enable us to access aspects of our existence that cannot be accessed in any other way. Symbols are used in all facets of human endeavor. One can only feel sorry for those who cannot comprehend the government’s response to the breech of the capital on January 6, with many, even pundits, claiming it was only a peaceful occupation. Regardless if one sees January 6 as a full-scale riot/insurrection or simply patriotic Americans demonstrating as is their right, the fact is the individuals involved went against a symbol, and this could not be allowed or go unpunished.
