logo_USFS_USDAFlagstaff AZ (March 30, 2017) – This spring the Flagstaff Ranger District is opening some recreation sites earlier than usual with limited amenities.

Lower Lake Mary Picnic Area is now open Saturdays and Sundays until April 10, when it will open for the entire week.  The picnic area is day use only and gates will be opened at 7:30 a.m. and closed at 5:30 p.m. each weekend day.  During this time there will be limited services; visitors are asked to “Pack It In and Pack It Out” as there will be no trash services, and no fee will be charged.  Full services and 7-days a week access will begin April 10 and a $9 day use fee will be required.

Ashurst Lake is also open currently, with both Ashurst and Forked Pine campgrounds being available with no services.  Visitors pack out what they brought in and dispose of all human waste properly, as there will be no water available, no trash service, and no restrooms available during this time.  There will be no fee charged until full amenities are available beginning on May 5.

All other campgrounds on the Flagstaff Ranger District will open with full services beginning
May 5.   Many forest roads and recreation sites remain closed and inaccessible due to snow or wet roads; visit http://tinyurl.com/roadstatus-cof  for updates on road status. For more information on Coconino National Forest recreation sites please visit:
