Camp Verde AZ (October 19, 2015) – As our high desert summertime temperatures begin to cool and before our first snow fall, it’s time to warm up with authentic Hawaiian Hula, culture and music by attending the 12th annual Ho`ike (hula exhibition show) presented by Halau Hula Napuaokalei`ilima. Kumu Hula Kehau Chrisman invites you to join the Halau on a Saturday, November 7, 2015 at the Phillip England Center for the Performing Arts (280 Camp Lincoln Road in Camp Verde).  Doors open at 12:45 PM and the show starts at 1 PM.

At the show, take advantage of purchasing reasonably priced Hawai`i themed items for sale and as well as several special items in the silent auction – just in time for holiday gifts. Money raised will be used to support our educational activities such as making cultural presentations at schools and traveling to the Festival of the Pacific Arts. It will also support future performances at the MIM (Musical Instrument Museum) in Phoenix and at the 2016 Arizona Aloha Festival to be held at the Tempe Beach Park March 12-13.

    No Legal Traction on OHVs
    By Tommy Acosta
In the upcoming fight between the city and companies that rent Off Highway Vehicles, the city is going to lose. Simply put, the city has no jurisdiction over state-owned highways. Period. It can manage its own streets and pass ordinances to promote public safety on them, but it can do nada to ban OHVs on S.R.179 or S.R. 89A. Who remembers the fight over dark skies and the light poles on S.R.89A? ADOT had its way no matter how hard the opponents fought. It’s the same here. Can one really believe that Polaris, with outlets across the country, would allow a precedent to be set where municipalities can ban OHVs on state-owned highways that run through their cities? The answer is a resounding “hell no.” Read more→
