Cottonwood AZ (January 8, 2016) – Want to learn something fun and get a little exercise too?  How about the chance to meet some new people who are happy and energetic? Contra dance is a little like square dancing but the music is more Celtic and less country. It is based on UK dances from long ago and has been thriving in parts of the US for many years. We always have live music and a caller who will teach the basics in the first half hour and go over new moves as they come up. This month’s dance is Sat., Jan. 16th, the band is Just Desserts, and our caller is Michael Barraclough.

20160108_contraThe pre-dance lesson begins at 6:30PM, with dancing from 7:00 until 10:00. If you can walk, you can contra—no experience or partner is needed.  Wear comfortable shoes and clothing and bring a snack donation if possible.  The location is Cottonwood Civic Center, 805 N. Main Street, in Old Town.  Donations are $10 per dancer and $8 for students. Contact Sandy Boothe for more information: 928-634-0486 or sandy@ringsforever.com.

City Council Weighs ATV Ban Ordinance Proposal
    By Tommy Acosta
The Sedona City Council at its May 23, 2023 meeting took no action on a proposed ordinance that would ban all off-road vehicles from being driven on state-owned public roads or streets owned by the city. The ordinance, spearheaded by Sedona Mayor Scott Jablow on the premise that such vehicles pose a risk to the health, safety and welfare of the community, would impose heavy fines to anyone driving the ATVs or OHVs on city streets, including S.R. 179 and S.R. 89A. ATV rental companies have admitted that such vehicles are not intended or designed to be driven on paved roads, yet, in Arizona, they are allowed to do so under Arizona Revised Statute 28-1174 (4B). Opponents against the ordinance argued at the meeting that if adopted the ban would cripple the ATV rental industry in Sedona and cause much hardship to the owners and employees, as it would effectively, as written, destroy their livelihood.
