Sedona News – The Sedona International Film Festival is proud to present the Northern Arizona premiere of “Mystery of the Nile” and “Arabia” showing June 21-27 at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre. The two award-winning films will show in one package.

    MYSTERY OF THE NILE

“Mystery of the Nile” is a breathtaking cinematic adventure that takes audiences on an expedition down the world’s greatest and most deadly river, the Blue Nile. For 114 days, a team of explorers led by Pasquale Scaturro and Gordon Brown face seemingly insurmountable challenges — class VI rapids, dangerous crocodiles and hippos, gunfire from bandits, malaria, and the fierce Saharan sun — as they make their way along all 3,260 miles of the river to become the first in history to complete a full descent of the Blue Nile from source to sea. Throughout the journey, the beauty and wonder of the magnificent Nile region are revealed as never before.

With the dazzling immediacy of IMAX photography, “Mystery of the Nile” brings the expedition’s bold voyage to life with unmistakable realism. More than just a chronicle of a groundbreaking expedition, the film also reveals a wondrous region that is host to abundant historical, cultural and natural treasures, where a connection to the ancient past informs our understanding of the rapidly changing future.

    ARABIA

Steeped in ancient history and unique customs not found anywhere else in the world, Arabia mystifies us, shimmering like a desert mirage.  For more than 2,000 years, its people have flourished in one of the harshest environments on the planet.  Yet little is known about its fascinating culture which has remained hidden from the West for far too long.

Now, with the full force of IMAX cinematography, “Arabia” takes viewers deep into the heart of this exotic land where they’ll experience firsthand the mystique of Arabia both past and present.  Like visitors on a magic carpet ride, audiences will discover the lost city of Madain Saleh and explore its ancient tombs; they will travel with a camel caravan along the early frankincense trade route; they will share in the lamp-lit warmth of a Bedouin family tent and travel back in time to the Islamic Golden Age where Arabian science and scholarship flourished; and they will survive a desert sandstorm and dive the coral reefs and ancient shipwrecks of the dazzling Red Sea.

Viewers will also join in the extraordinary pilgrimage known as the hajj where every year 3 million Muslims arrive in the holy city of Meccah to reaffirm their faith, creating the largest single human gathering on Earth.  In a series of stunning time-lapse images, Arabia takes viewers deep inside this holiest of cities for a climactic scene of spiritual renewal.

A powerful and surprising giant screen tour de force — and the first major film production to be granted access to more than 20 locations across Arabia — “Arabia” offers a deeper understanding of this most fascinating culture and way of life that has been largely hidden from our view.

“Mystery of the Nile” and “Arabia” will show together at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre June 21-27. Showtimes will be Friday, Saturday and Thursday, June 21, 22 and 27 at 4:00 p.m.; and Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, June 24, 25 and 26 at 7:00 p.m.

Tickets are $12, or $9 for Film Festival members. For tickets and more information, please call 928-282-1177. Both the theatre and film festival office are located at 2030 W. Hwy. 89A, in West Sedona. For more information, visit: www.SedonaFilmFestival.org.
